Itinerary

Day 1

From a morning pickup in your local area, we travel to York where we spend some time at the annual St Nicholas Fayre, one of the most popular festive markets in the country. Like stepping into a scene from a Dickens’ tale, the bustling Victorian market stalls sell everything, from local produce to traditional gifts and crafts. Treat yourself to a warming glass of festive cheer with roasted chestnuts and listen to carol singers. Leave time to wander York’s infamous winding lanes and visit the magnificent Minster. There’s time for dinner at leisure (not included) before we head to the hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 2

En route home, we travel to Chatsworth House, which has been home to sixteen generations of the powerful Cavendish family. Known for its festive atmosphere and beautiful seasonal decorations, Chatsworth is a wonderful location to get into the Christmas spirit. Later this afternoon we rejoin the coach for our journey home.

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House

We experience the grandeur of Chatsworth House, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, which has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. Situated in the heart of the Peak District, Chatsworth House is one of the UK’s real gems. Stroll through 25 rooms and marvel at works of art spanning over 4,000 years, including magnificent ornate ceilings, Roman and Egyptian sculptures, plus paintings from artists including Rembrandt and Van Dyck.

Every grand staircase and room you enter is like a scene from a period drama, a feast for the eyes with some of the finest and priceless art to exist in the world. The Sculpture Gallery is equally impressive and features a collection of items collected over the years including large white marble Italian sculptures and the largest vase in the world made from Blue John stone.

Outside, the 105-acre gardens are also a real treat with perfectly manicured lawns, spectacular flower beds and a rockery garden, all of which can be explored by wandering on foot along the five miles of designated trails. There are plenty of sculptures to discover in the grounds too as well as numerous ponds and fountains, most notably the eye-catching Cascade waterfall which flows down 24 different shaped steps.
