  • DAY 2 Plymouth, Massachusetts
  • A quintessential New England town, Plymouth is where America's founding fathers first set foot in the New World in 1620. You can explore the town and discover its history at leisure today, visiting Plymouth Rock or the fascinating Pilgrim Hall Museum. Alternatively, why not join our full-day optional tour of Plymouth and Cape Cod, which includes a visit to Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum replicating the original Plymouth Colony settlement. Your journey then continues with a drive round Cape Cod and some free time in the town of Chatham, where you can enjoy lunch if you wish. In the afternoon you will see the Kennedy Memorial and the historic Kennedy Compound during a harbour cruise in Hyannis.
  • DAY 3 Boston, Massachusetts
  • Today's included tour takes you to the capital of Massachusetts, Boston. Highlights include the historic neighbourhoods of Beacon Hill and Back Bay, including Copley Square. As you travel along the Freedom Trail you'll see the house of revolutionary Paul Revere, and visit the Old North Church, which also played a major role in the American Revolution and would be immortalised in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem 'The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere'. Next you'll cross the Charles River to Cambridge, home of Harvard University, where you can enjoy a stroll through Harvard Yard. There's free time at the waterfront district and Quincy Market, where you might choose to take lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure.
  • DAY 4 New Hampshire
  • Leaving Plymouth today, you'll follow the 'Battle Trail' as you learn about the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. You will stand on Lexington Green and visit North Bridge in Concord, where you will relive the events of 19th April 1775, when the first shots were fired, and even hear the historic echo of 'the shot heard round the world'. Continue to Lincoln in New Hampshire, for a three-night stay.
  • DAY 5 White Mountains, New Hampshire
  • Today has been left free for you to spend at leisure. Your hotel boasts two swimming pools, and is located close to a lake from where you can enjoy boat trips or follow one of the scenic walking trails. Alternatively, we offer a full-day optional excursion taking you into the heart of the White Mountains. You'll board the Mount Washington Cog Railway – the oldest mountain cog railway in the world – and head to the summit of Mount Washington. On a clear day you can enjoy spectacular views of five states and Canada from the highest peak in the eastern United States. Your tour ends with a visit to Flume Gorge, a deep, narrow-sided valley which plummets to 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty in Franconia Notch State Park.
  • DAY 6 Stowe, Vermont
  • An included tour today takes you into the Green Mountains of Vermont, where you'll have the chance to admire the Montpelier Capital Building, one of the USA's most picturesque State Houses. Next, you'll head to the charming mountain resort of Stowe. This is where the Von Trapp family, on which the film 'The Sound of Music' was based, eventually settled after fleeing Austria in the 1940s. Round off your tour with a stop at Ben & Jerry's ice-cream factory for a tour and, of course, a tasting.
  • DAY 7 New Hampshire
  • Your tour continues to Ogunquit in Maine, via the famous Kancamagus Highway, often described as one of the most scenic in New England, which offers spectacular views of the colourful foliage during the fall. Before arrival at your hotel, where a two-night stay has been arranged, there's time to stop in North Conway. This charming town occupies a lovely setting surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, and is home to nearly 100 stores, fine art galleries and factory outlets.
  • DAY 8 Ogunquit, Maine
  • During a day at leisure get to know the lovely coastal town of Ogunquit, where you'll find a great selection of restaurants and shops and beautiful beaches. If you want to discover more, why not join our optional excursion to the quintessential New England town of Kennebunkport, a popular seaside resort which was the summer home of former US President George Bush. Stop to admire 'the most photographed house in Maine', the exquisite Wedding Cake House, before returning to Ogunquit. Here your tour continues with a walk along the magnificent Marginal Way, a mile-long paved footpath which winds its way along Maine's scenic coastline to Perkins Cove. This fishing harbour is home to a variety of lobster shacks and seafood restaurants, and your excursion ends as you enjoy a traditional New England lobster bake.
  • DAY 9 Boston/UK
  • Your journey to the airport takes you on a scenic drive along Cape Ann and through the historic town of Rockport. Depending on the time of your flight there may be time to enjoy a spot of last-minute shopping in Boston before your flight back to the UK.
  • DAY 10 UK
  • You'll arrive back in the UK today.
