Itinerary

  • Day 1 UK/Bucharest
  • Depart on your flight to Bucharest today. On arrival, transfer to your centrally located hotel, enjoying a panoramic tour of the city en route. This evening, dinner with a glass of beer or wine is included at a restaurant in Bucharest's atmospheric Old Town.
  • Day 2 Bucharest
  • Today we include a guided tour of Romania's capital, starting in Constitution Square and the colossal Parliament Palace. Built by Communist Party leader Nicolai Ceausescu to be the headquarters of his government, this is the second-largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon. It now houses Romania's parliament and your tour continues inside its walls, where there are 1,100 rooms decorated with marble, crystal and gold.  After time at leisure to enjoy lunch if you wish, you'll visit the Patriarchal Cathedral and the Village Museum, a fascinating collection of 50 buildings which recreate the history of rural Romania. Life centres around squares in Bucharest and today you'll see many, including Union Square, Victory Square and Charles de Gaulle Square. Dinner this evening is included at a local restaurant.
  • Day 3 Romantic Castle of the Carpathian Mountains
  • Today you'll see two of the most beautiful castles in Eastern Europe. You'll journey by road to the Prahova Valley, in the Carpathian Mountains, to the stylish alpine resort of Sinaia. Here, you'll visit Peles Castle, surrounded by terraces and gardens decorated with statues.  After free time you tour continues to perhaps Europe's most famous castle, the 14th century Bran Castle, known throughout the world as Dracula's Castle. Legend has it that Bram Stoker's character Count Dracula used to live here, and you can step inside to see a display of art and furniture collected by Queen Marie, the last Queen consort of Romania.  You'll return to your hotel late this afternoon, where dinner is included this evening.
  • Day 4 Mogosoaia Palace and Snagov Monastery
  • Your exploration of Romania continues today with an included excursion to Mogosoaia Palace, built in what is called the Romanian Renaissance or Brancovenesc style, combining Venetian and Oriental elements. After a tour, head to the Brancovenesc Museum, which displays exhibits including paintings, sculptures and rare books.  Your final destination today is Snagov Island, set in the centre of a lake. The island is home to Snagov Monastery, which you will enter to see a plaque on the wall said to mark the grave of Count Dracula.  Dinner this evening will be enjoyed at a restaurant, where a folklore show and wine are also included.
  • Day 5 Bucharest/UK
  • Today you'll transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
