Itinerary

  • DAY 1 UK/Bucharest
  • After flying to Bucharest, we'll transfer you to your hotel. Fascinating architecture and a sprinkling of great museums make Romania's capital city truly memorable, and you'll see more later in your tour. This evening, our included welcome dinner will be served in a restaurant in the atmospheric Old Town.
  • DAY 2 Sibiu
  • You'll head to Sibiu today, a journey which takes you through the picturesque Olt Valley. En route, you'll take in the Orthodox Cozia Monastery, which features beautifully preserved frescoes and intriguing medieval architecture. As we arrive in Sibiu at around midday, there's plenty of time to take a walking tour through the Old Town. This is one of Eastern Europe's most beautiful medieval towns, previously named the European Capital of Culture. Your stroll will take you through pretty squares and down winding cobblestone streets. Sightseeing highlights include Liar's Bridge, the oldest cast-iron bridge in Romania, Huet Square and the 14th century Lutheran Church, whose towering steeple is a landmark of the city. Tonight we’re going to drive to the idyllic mountain village of Sibiel. Our evening begins with a visit to the Museum of Icons on Glass and concludes with a traditional dinner in a restaurant.
  • DAY 3 Brasov
  • A scenic journey awaits this morning on Transylvania's country roads, as you travel past small Saxon villages with colourful houses and fortified churches en route to Brasov. We'll make a stop in Biertan, home to one of Transylvania's most impressive medieval churches. Perched on a hill, this UNESCO-listed fortified building features fascinating Gothic architecture, several towers and a huge wooden altar. Further on we'll stop off at Sighisoara, a medieval citadel with cobbled streets, fortified walls and colourful 16th century houses. A tour here will introduce you to the town's landmark, its impressive Clock Tower, and the Church on the Hill, which boasts stunning frescoes and a crypt. Your final stop is the birthplace of Vlad Dracula, Bram Stoker's inspiration for the fictional Count Dracula. Later we’ll arrive in Brasov, our base for the next two nights.
  • DAY 4 Brasov
  • Romania is home to Europe's largest bear population, and your day begins with a visit to the Libearty Bear Sanctuary near Zarnesti. This peaceful setting is home to about 60 of these animals, which have been rescued from captivity. Next you'll head to the small village of Bran, where you'll see Dracula Castle. This fascinating fortress looks as though it has been lifted straight from a fairy tale and you'll get to head inside to explore. Afterwards, we’ll head back to Brasov and take a tour of the medieval town, where highlights include the Black Church, one of Romania’s most impressive religious buildings. In the evening you're invited to a traditional restaurant for dinner, where folk music is on the menu alongside Romanian dishes.
  • DAY 5 Tuclea & Sinaia
  • You're heading to Tulcea today – the 'Gate of the Danube Delta' – but not before you've joined our included visit to the elegant Peles Castle in Sinaia. Built as an official residence for the Romanian royal family at the end of the 19th century, inside you'll see original paintings by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt.
  • DAY 6 Danube Delta
  • A cruise into the Danube Delta is a great way to start your morning. This beautifully preserved area is protected by UNESCO and is a sanctuary for hundreds of bird species, including cormorants, swans and pelicans. Keep a lookout for wildlife as you enjoy a relaxed lunch on board. After returning to Tulcea, the rest of the day is free for you to enjoy as you wish. You could relax and enjoy the facilities at your hotel, or perhaps head out to explore the city.
  • DAY 7 Bucharest
  • We're taking you back to Bucharest today on a scenic journey which takes in Constanta. One of Eastern Europe's oldest cities, it's also the largest harbour of the Black Sea. Our guided tour begins at Ovid Square, home to the National Museum of History and Archaeology. We will head inside to see a rich collection of ancient statues, jewels and a vast Roman mosaic which is the largest of its kind in Eastern Europe. Back on the road, our next stop is the wine region of Murfatlar, where we're going to visit a vineyard and taste four of the excellent wines produced here. Tonight we'll head to a restaurant in Bucharest for dinner and a folklore show.

  • DAY 8 Bucharest/UK
  • Today we'll show you around Bucharest on an included tour. You’ll see the Palace of the Parliament, the second-largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon, and discover traditional buildings and windmills at the open-air Village Museum. You've then got some free time to explore the city on your own, before we take you to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
