Join us as we make our way to Melrose, known for the stunning ruins of Melrose Abbey, for a relaxing four-day getaway. We’ll enjoy a festive holiday, exploring picturesque Melrose at leisure, as well as visiting the historical city of Edinburgh. Discover its many sights, and explore the superb Christmas markets, with its huge range of stalls.

We’ll be based at the Bay Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose and will have plenty of time to explore this charming market town for ourselves. Discover the many shops in the town centre or enjoy a leisurely walk or two, before we make our way to Edinburgh for the main attraction of our holiday!


In Edinburgh, we’ll find a winter wonderland, with lots to see and do in this historical city. We’ll have lots of free time to take in the medieval atmosphere of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, or maybe you’d like to explore Princes Street - a paradise for shopaholics! We’ll also peruse the Edinburgh Christmas Market, with its fantastic festive stalls selling all manner of wares, from delicious foods to handmade trinkets that would make ideal Christmas gifts for loved ones at home!

Day 1: Home to Melrose

We’ll make our way from the interchange to Melrose, where we’ll check in to the Bay Waverley Castle Hotel and will enjoy a sumptuous evening meal. (Dinner)



Days 2 and 3: Melrose

We’ll have a great time, with time to discover Melrose’s many sights at leisure, as well as a trip to Edinburgh to discover this city’s wonderful historical sights and the excellent Edinburgh Christmas Market. (Breakfast, Dinner)



Day 4: Melrose to Home

Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (Breakfast)

Lying at the heart of Sir Walter Scott country Melrose has a wealth of interesting attractions, from its beautiful abbey and the walled gardens of Priorwood the area is a haven for lovers of great history and culture. With the town being at the heart of an area of gentle hills, undulating valleys and Border Abbeys, this is an ideal place for people looking to spend time outdoors.


Looking a little further afield the fantastic cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle are all within easy reach. All three cities have a fascinating history to discover and stunning architecture to enjoy, each providing its own particular culture. For some ancient history head to the border with England and discover the Roman era ruins that surround Hadrian’s Wall which also enjoys stunning views over Northumberland National Park.


The Waverley Castle Hotel is splendidly set in 5 acres of rolling parkland behind which flows the River Tweed. Spend time in the comfortable lounges and bar, enjoy various games, stroll around the grounds and dance the nights away in the entertainment room.

Excursion to historic capital Edinburgh. Take some time to explore the magical winter wonderland of Edinburgh Christmas Market. Many of the activities are centred around the hustle and bustle of Princes Street and you can soak up the festive atmosphere as well as picking up a present or two!
