Valkenburg is a beautiful town in Holland and provides the perfect base for this tour, close to cities such as Maastricht and only a short drive from Aachen and Monschau in Germany. We will also explore Valkenburg famous for its underground caves and castle perched above the town.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Day 1: UK to Valkenburg
From your departure point travel to Hythe Interchange (Stop 24) and join your main tour coach for the channel crossing to Calais. We then continue our journey to the Hotel Walram in the centre of Valkenburg. (Dinner)
Day 2: Valkenburg
Valkenburg, sometimes called ‘Marlstone Town’ because of the lime found in the soil and the soft yellow marlstone which has, since Roman times, been quarried as building material. As a result, there is now a network of over 150 miles of underground corridors beneath the town. A visit to these caves is highly recommended. There is plenty to keep you occupied above ground as well, such as the castle ruins and many shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 3: Aachen and Monschau
Today we make a great excursion into Germany, firstly stopping in Aachen where you have time to explore the stunning old town with its famous cathedral. We continue through the fantastic countryside of the Eiffel Mountains to the small town of Monschau. The town is famous for its half-timbered buildings and overlooked by a medieval castle. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 4: Maastricht
Today we make the short journey to Maastricht. Visit the prettiest parts of the old city centre including the Stokstraat Quarter, the Basilica of Our Lady, the Ramparts and the parks plus much more. Take some time out to explore the network of underground passageways and vaults beneath the city where a large part of the Netherlands’ art treasures were safeguarded during World War II. Day 5: Valkenburg to UK
On the last day of our holiday, we travel to Calais for our Channel crossing and onward journey home. (Breakfast)

Half Day: Maastricht - Included
Today we visit the charming university city of Maastricht, on the southern tip of the Netherlands. Take in the beautiful medieval architecture and enjoy as stroll through the charming streets of the cobbled old town, with its historic basilica and the Gothic-style church Sint Janskerk. On the banks of the Maas River, bisecting the city, you can also see the futuristic-looking Bonnefanten art museum.
Valkenburg Tourist Train - Optional
Enjoy a guided tour of Valkenburg on the tourist train, visiting the main sights in the town.
Full Day: Aachen and Monschau - Included
Cross the border into Germany and visit Aachen. Enjoy some free time exploring the great old town and its cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moving on, drive through the stunning scenery of the Eiffel Mountains before spending some time in the picturesque village of Monschau, famous for its half-timbered buildings overlooked by a medieval castle, before returning to Valkenburg.
