The Ship & Castle occupies an enviable position right on the harbour of the sleepy Cornish coastal village of St Mawes with views of Carrick Roads and Percuill River.

At the other side of the village is St Mawes Castle which is at the perfect spot for views over the coast to Pendennis Castle in Falmouth. From St Mawes you will be in a magnificent place to explore the Roseland Peninsula which has a number of beautiful walking trails along the coast.

Taking the ferry across Carrick Roads to Falmouth there are a number of great attractions in town to enjoy including Falmouth Art Gallery and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. You can pick up the South West Coast Path in town to take in the Lizard Heritage Coast which is a stunning mix of green hills and dramatic seaside cliffs.

Inside the hotel is the perfect place to relax, with fantastic views so why not grab a bottle of wine in the lounge and look out at the boats on the harbour as the sunsets after a busy day?

Self-guided walking pack and three packed lunches - Optional

Included walking pack with three self-guided walks in the local area plus packed lunches on three days.

St Mawes Headland Walk - Optional

This walk passes St Mawes Castle for great views of the Carrick Roads and Falmouth. Coming out of the village and past the Castle you'll walk the coastal footpath for a mile before climbing inland towards the Percuil River, turning back south and back into St Mawes.

Swanpool & Falmouth Docks - Optional

Falmouth was at one point the second most important in the British Empire, with 16,000 vessels passing through the port in one nine year period at one point. You'll discover the forts that protected the town, one of which is Pendennis Castle, the headland here gives great views back across the bay to the headlands of the Roseland Peninsula.

St Anthony Head - Optional

You'll explore the peninsula just across from St Mawes which juts off the very bottom of the Roseland peninsula into Falmouth Harbour. This area has been a key naval target for centuries due to the spectacular views it offers across the harbour. These military defences and wartime remains are one thing in particular to watch out for on this walk.
