The River Garonne is of the most beautiful and picturesque in France. We’ll pass pretty Bordeaux, and through stunning French countryside, with great views to enjoy along the way from your smaller cruise ship. Just upstream from Bordeaux, the Garonne meets the Dordogne River to form the large Gironde estuary. We dock in Bordeaux in the evening.
Day 4: Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is the wine capital of the world and has become one of France's liveliest cities. Don’t miss the chance to sample the local drop while you’re here, but make sure you enjoy some of the cities lesser known treasures too. That includes the city’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the Gothic Cathedral, dating back to Roman times.
Day 5 Santander, Spain
Santander is beautifully set against a natural backdrop of sea and mountains. Explore the city’s cathedral, including the tomb of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, a work by the sculptor Victorio Macho and the crypt of El Cristo, with artefacts dating back to the Roman era. Enjoy a walk along the seafront promenade, running along one side of the Jardines de Pereda gardens. There are also great beaches in the city, protected by the bay with wonderful, calm waters. Food wise, don’t miss locally–caught fried squid and whitebait, or cocido montañés, a stew made of beans, meat and cabbage.
Day 6: Aviles, Spain
Aviles is a historic town, with great shopping, pretty cafes and fascinating museums and galleries, the Old Town quarter is superb to discover at leisure. Here, there are several historic squares and plazas, linked by pretty boulevards. In particular this includes the Camposagrado Palace, the Palacio de Valdecarzana and outstanding Gothic churches.

Most famous for its Roman lighthouse, La Coruña is superb to discover. Boasting an impressive seafront promenade, beautiful beaches and attractions including the Domus Museum, the Casa del Hombre and Torre De Hercules, the only Roman lighthouse in existence offering sweeping coastal views.
