Day 1 UK to Outskirts of Munich
Fly from a local airport to Munich, where we are met and transferred to a hotel on the outskirts of Munich for an overnight stay on a bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2 Outskirts of Munich to Engelhartszell, cruise to Vienna
We are met and transferred to Engelhartszell where we embark the MS A-ROSA DONNA. Our cruise commences with an overnight sailing to Vienna. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 3 Vienna
We reach Vienna by lunchtime. Enjoy an included panoramic tour of the Austrian capital which boasts a rich history and an abundance of historical buildings and museums. Our panoramic tour gives us a wonderful overview of the city, as we drive along the famous Ringstrasse, which encompasses the city centre. Along the way we see a host of sights, including the State Opera House, the Johann Strauss House, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Natural History Museum, the Parliament, and much more. We moor overnight in Vienna. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 4 Vienna to Linz
Today you will have time at leisure in Vienna, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. During the festive season Vienna's squares transform into magical Christmas markets selling traditional Christmas tree decorations, handicrafts, culinary treats, confectionery and warming drinks. The main market can be found at the Rathausplatz in front of the 19th century City Hall. The windows of this magical building are transformed into an enormous Advent Calendar, counting down the days until Christmas. The charming Spittelberg market is held in the old historic quarter with its narrow alleyways and courtyard. We depart Vienna early evening and sail overnight to Linz. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 5 Linz to Engelhartszell
After a morning sailing we reach Linz, one of the largest ports on the Danube. The city’s Christmas Markets, with the curving roofs of its stalls symbolizing the waves of the Danube, are a true festive highlight. The main market is situated on the baroque main square and there is a fairy-tale world Christmas Market at the Volksgarten public gardens, delighting adults and children alike with a nativity play performed every thirty minutes. Before midnight we leave Linz behind to commence our cruise back to Engelhartszell. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 6 Engelhartszell to UK
We arrive in Engelhartszell early morning where we disembark after breakfast. We then transfer to Munich Airport for our flight back to the UK. (Breakfast)
Cultural Linz - Optional
The city of Linz has stood either side of the Danube since Roman times and was one of the major cities of the Habsburg Empire. We will take a guided walking tour of the historic city, with the many of the buildings we’ll walk between in the Old Town dating from its 15th century heyday. The city mixes the old and new with the beautiful Brucknerhaus concert hall and Lentos art museum on the banks of the Danube reflecting its growing international reputation as a modern cultural centre. Close to Linz castle is constructed from the debris of Roman buildings.
Mozart and Strauss Concert - Optional
Vienna is undoubtedly Europe’s musical capital, and this excursion will give us the opportunity to enjoy the music of two of Austria’s favourite sons. Sit back and relax as we listen to the music of Johann Strauss, the Waltz King, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the infant prodigy.
We make the short journey by coach to the concert hall for an evening full of Viennese charm, with the lilting sound of waltzes, polkas, arias and duets, as well as operetta and piano concerto melodies. Accompanied by excellent opera vocalists and our enchanting ballet soloists, Vienna's classical music reveals itself as a living firework display for all the senses taking us back to the days of old Vienna for a truly unforgettable evening.
Vienna Panoramic Tour - Included
Join us for an amazing tour of Vienna, allowing us to discover this splendid city for ourselves. Our coach tour will begin as we travel past Vienna’s large park, the Prater, admiring views of the famous Ferris wheel and then on to the State Opera House, also seeing the Fine Arts and History Museum.
We will also see the stunning Hofburg Palace during our city tour, along with the Parliament building, the Town Hall and the Burg Theatre. Making our way to St. Stephen's Cathedral in the city centre, we will disembark our coach and enjoy a walking tour of Vienna. We will stroll along the Graben, one of Vienna’s most famous streets.
After our walking tour, we return to our coach and begin our return journey, taking in the famous buildings by painter and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, stopping to admire he unique Hundertwasserhaus.Back to top
