Itinerary
29th July: Arrival at the Gemma Resort, Dorrybay, Marsa Alam
We depart from London Gatwick and fly to Marsa Alam International Airport, where our journey begins. Upon arrival, we are greeted by our local airport representative. We settle into the Gemma Resort, our base for the duration of the tour, where we enjoy an all-inclusive stay in elegant surroundings. After check-in, there is time to unwind before gathering for a welcome drink and dinner, an opportunity to meet fellow travellers and begin our Egyptian experience in relaxed and like-minded company.
30th & 31st July: Days at leisure
Enjoy the tranquil setting of the Gemma Resort, with its pristine beachfront, inviting pools and extensive facilities. Choose to unwind by the Red Sea, indulge in a spa treatment, or simply enjoy the resort’s all-inclusive hospitality; these leisurely days offer the perfect balance to the tour’s cultural highlights.
1st August: Day at leisure & pre-eclipse briefing
Enjoy a day at leisure and take full advantage of the Gemma Resort’s peaceful setting and excellent facilities, whether you prefer a day of quiet relaxation by the sea, a refreshing swim or exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding area. In the evening, we gather for a special pre-eclipse briefing led by our accompanying astronomer. This engaging session offers fascinating insights into the upcoming celestial event and prepares us for tomorrow’s once-in-a-generation spectacle.
2nd August: Eclipse Viewing Day
We head to the exclusive eclipse viewing site, specially arranged for comfort and safety. The site offers shade tents, plenty of seating, a catered lunch and certified eclipse glasses to ensure the best viewing experience. The 2027 total solar eclipse is part of Saros Cycle 136, a series known for producing some of the longest total eclipses in modern history, including the record-setting 6-minute 38-second event in 2009. Today’s eclipse promises to be equally remarkable, with several minutes of totality expected. After this unforgettable celestial display, we return to the hotel for dinner and lively reflection on the day’s events.
3rd August: Day at leisure
We spend a leisurely day soaking up the tranquil atmosphere at Gemma Resort. Whether we choose to unwind by the sea or explore the stunning natural surroundings, the resort’s peaceful ambience and excellent facilities offer plenty to enjoy.
4th August: Luxor Land of the Pharaohs
After an early breakfast, we set off for a full-day excursion to Luxor, the ancient city once known as Thebes. Accompanied by an expert Egyptologist, we explore some of Egypt’s most iconic and historically significant sites. Our guided tour includes the Valley of the Kings, the grand necropolis of New Kingdom pharaohs; the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut; the imposing Colossi of Memnon; the vast Karnak Temple complex, dedicated to the god Amun-Re and the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple, dating to around 1400 BC. We return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.
5th August: Day at leisure
Today provides a final chance to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Gemma Resort. Whether you choose to spend the day relaxing at the resort, seeing local sights or reflecting on the unforgettable eclipse experience, this day is yours to cherish at your own pace.
6th August: Departure
We check out of our hotel and transfer to Marsa Alam Airport for our flight to Gatwick.
