Green Dragon Steam TrainBuilt in 1876, the classic steam locomotive 957 is over 130 years old and was nicknamed the Green Dragon in the classic 1970 film, The Railway Children, starring Sally Thomsett, Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins. The engine has recently been repainted from its fictional green livery to British Railway Black and will be back hauling passengers in spring 2022 after a complete restoration over the last few years.
Skipton
SkiptonThis delightful town, known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is packed with plenty of character and charm. From the quaint cobbled alleyways bursting with quirky boutiques, to the striking medieval castle, Skipton offers a unique heritage and friendly atmosphere.
The Leeds–Liverpool canal winds its way through the town and the humpback bridges are perfect to spot the colourful canal boats scooting along, before retiring to a lovely tearoom for a well-deserved cuppa.
Haworth
HaworthFormer stomping ground of the Brontë sisters and easily one of the quaintest villages in West Yorkshire, it’s not hard to see how Haworth’s meandering cobbled lanes gazing out towards the mysterious moors provided inspiration for the likes of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.
The Brontë Parsonage Museum is well worth a visit before you explore the lovely range of art, vintage and crafts shops – all crammed with curios and gifts made by local Yorkshire residents.
