The lively city of Limerick is steeped in history and is situated in the heart of Ireland’s beautiful Shannon region. Dating back 1,100 years, the city combines a mix of historic and modern features and is overlooked by the majestic 13th-century St Johns Castle. St Marys Cathedral, founded in the 12th century, remains the oldest building in Limerick and is still used as a place of worship and prayer. The city is also home to the Hunt museum, which exhibits one of Ireland's greatest private collections of art and antiquities and includes works by Picasso and Yeats.
