The Edinburgh Tattoo

The Edinburgh Tattoo

Set against the breath-taking illuminated backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the biggest military show of its type which has been wowing audiences for over 60 years. Expect an unforgettable evening of music, ceremony, theatre and dance at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo with National Holidays.

Staged every August as part of the internationally renowned Edinburgh Festival, the Tattoo has become an iconic institution, a celebration of pipes, pageantry and pomp which brings together an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary performances from all four corners of the world. Every year the event’s 25 shows attract over 220,000 people and a worldwide TV audience of over 100 million.

As always, the programme highlights will include the opening procession from the Massed Pipes and Drums and the Massed Military Bands, as well as the famous Lone Piper, who will play the haunting lament high on the castle turrets to end proceedings. Sandwiched in between, the exhilarating 100-minute spectacle is filled with show stopping performances from cultural groups and display teams who bring a kaleidoscope of colour, action and music to the show.

Expect anything and everything - from Highland dancers, fiddle players and steel bands, to martial art performers and daredevil motorbike acrobatic displays. Not to forget a grand finale featuring a rendition of Auld Lang Syne and a spectacular fireworks display. It’s a stunning event that gets bigger and better every year!
