Day OneFly to Vilnius, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to the hotel in the heart of the city. Settle in and perhaps explore the surrounding, UNESCO-listed Old Town, with its beautifully illuminated Baroque churches and Italianate buildings. A lively university seat exuding festive cheer, Vilnius boasts a vast range of bars, cafes and restaurants in which to pass pleasant evenings.
Day TwoThis morning, join our guide for an included tour that will bring to life Vilnius's major sights, many restored to their former glory. Highlights include the striking Gothic Church of St Anne, the 14th-century Presidential Palace, the 400-year-old university and the Royal Palace. Countless churches, including the re-consecrated cathedral, testify to the Lithuanians' deep faith, and beautiful Christmas decorations, especially in Cathedral Square, where the market sells handcrafted goods and traditional foodstuffs, exude fairy-tale charm. Look out for the contrastingly quirky bust of jazz-rock legend Frank Zappa - the first work of art to proclaim the country's newfound freedoms in the early 1990s.
This afternoon, an optional excursion takes in the fairy-tale Island Castle of Trakai, lovingly restored to its former glory and set in a lake, offshore from a settlement of distinctive wooden houses.
A wonderful day can be completed with the optional folklore evening at a local restaurant.
Day ThreeSpend today at leisure in Vilnius, soaking up the delights of the Christmas markets, or join a last optional excursion to historic second city Kaunas, a restored, riverside gem, boasting a wonderful Old Town and its own festive market.
A last evening is enjoyed in Vilnius.
