Plan My Trip

Day 1

Upon arrival, meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel in one of the world’s fastest growing, fastest changing, most exciting and friendliest cities. Rest and relax after the journey, and waste no time in soaking up the atmosphere of a place that hums with life day and night. Head to historic Pioneer Square, Pike Place, laid-back, trendy Ballard or the waterfront, where you’ll be spoilt for choice as far as dining options are concerned.

Day 2

Make the very most of a full day in Seattle, perhaps joining our optional excursion for the very best introduction to the city. This wonderful tour will include sightseeing by amphibious ‘Duck’ vehicle, and will take in historic Pioneer Square, lively Pike Place market - America’s oldest continuously working marketplace - and the waterfront area, before splashing into Lake Union for a breath-taking view of the city’s skyline.

Later why not take a trip to the observation deck of the iconic Space Needle for panoramic views over Victorian Pioneer Square, and pay a visit to the extraordinary Chihuly Glass and Gardens, a permanent exhibition and outdoor display of the colourful glasswork of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly?

Day 3

Today you’ll journey north along the scenic shores of Puget Sound, crossing the Canadian border and arriving by early afternoon in the glittering city of Vancouver. Later, enjoy your first taste of a place often voted among the best in the world to live – set as it is between the waters of the Georgia Strait and the dramatic mountains of the coastal ranges. And whether you go for traditional seafood, sushi, charcuterie (a local speciality) or sensational fusion dishes forged from the city’s cosmopolitan cuisine, Vancouver is foodie heaven, with restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets.

Day 4

Join this morning’s fascinating introduction to the city, highlights of which will include restored Gastown, colourful Chinatown, and the waterfront. Cross over the Lion’s Gate Bridge into the leafy suburbs of North Van to brave the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge, which stretches 140 meters across a deep river gorge. After the tour, explore the city at leisure and enjoy a second evening in this wonderful place.

Day 5

This morning, you’ll take the ferry over the Georgia Strait to Vancouver Island. Soak up the beautiful coastal views, then continue to the unashamedly British-feeling capital of British Columbia, Victoria. With its Royal B.C. Museum, vast Parliament Buildings and grand Empress Hotel, this compact, charming city is all elegance, surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy the first of two evenings in the city, which boasts a predictably superb choice of restaurants, bars, craft breweries and cafés.

Day 6

Spend today wandering Victoria’s inner harbour, open spaces – as well as Canada’s narrowest street – and fascinating museums. Alternatively, join our optional morning visit to world-famous Butchart Gardens, where over a million plants and several hundred floral species are displayed. This afternoon, you’ll have a chance to take an optional whale-watching cruise, and go in search of orca, humpback and grey whales in their natural environment before another chance to enjoy Victoria by night.

Day 7

After another morning enjoying the delights of Victoria, board another ferry and head back into the US for a night in Port Angeles – gateway to magnificent Olympic National Park, and a wonderful mix of a seaside town and mountain resort.

Day 8

Journey through the forested beauty of Olympic National Park, winding past magnificent Lake Crescent, set beneath the towering Olympic Mountains, and head west to the Pacific Ocean. Journey south, past tiny, timeless coastal settlements – some of which were used as locations in TV’s Twilight Zone – and spend the night in the classic beach resort of Ocean Shores.

Day 9

The breath-taking coastal scenery continues as you head further south along Washington State’s Pacific coastline on famous Highway 101, crossing the mouth of the great Columbia River to enter Oregon, and passing the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park, and the traditional seaside resorts of Seaside (yes, really), Cannon Beach and Rockaway Beach (which has a famous namesake across the US, on the Atlantic shore). You’ll spend the evening in Newport, another wonderful coastal town. Don’t miss the chance to grab a bowl of Pacific clam chowder – it’s a speciality along the coast.

Day 10

After a brief visit to Newport’s famous Yaquina Lighthouse, one of two that guided sailors safely towards the shore and sheltered bay, you’ll turn east. Head inland, through the beautiful Cascade Mountains and vast Williamette National Forest, and after a spectacular, scenic day you’ll arrive in the friendly, outdoors-oriented Oregon town of Bend, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 11

An unforgettable day awaits as you journey south to extraordinary Crater Lake. Formed over 400,000 years ago by the collapse of a volcano, Crater Lake is one of North America’s bluest, deepest bodies of water and Oregon’s only national park. Its shoreline (and crater edge) form the breathtaking Rim Drive through the spectacular scenery that you’ll follow, today, before returning to Bend for a second evening.

Day 12

Discover yet more majestic scenery as you journey north, following the geological wonder of the Columbia River Gorge (the Northwest’s own Grand Canyon). You’ll pass the 11,000-ft dormant volcano that is Mount Hood, and plunging Multnomah Falls, to arrive in the beautiful, European-style city of Portland, Oregon, by late afternoon. Enjoy your first evening in this delightful place, which perfectly combines the attractions of trendy city life with the stunning wonders of nature that surround it.

Day 13

This morning’s tour introduces the easy-going city that once marked the end of the hazardous Oregon Trail for countless pioneers. Lovingly preserved, Portland's highlights include historic Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Waterfront Park on the Williamette River, and colourful Pearl District. Gardeners will love the International Rose Test Garden, and all will delight in the views from restored Pittock Mansion. Adventurous foodies will find countless places to tempt them in the city that gave us the Voodoo Doughnut and has become the US home of the gourmet food truck.

Day 14

Spend a last morning enjoying Portland’s shops and speciality stores before your transfer to the airport to check in for your overnight flight home.

Day 15

You’ll land in the UK this morning, at the end of a spectacular, unforgettable north-western USA adventure. Back to top
