Join Magellan in Tilbury for a classic spring cruise in search of the Aurora Borealis. Call at three stunning ports on the beautiful fjord- and island-dotted coast of Western Norway, then sail beyond the Arctic Circle to mainland Europe’s northernmost region.Your cruise begins with a trip across the Channel to see Rotterdam's remarkable Markthal food market and Delfshaven's step-gabled houses and ancient wharves. Spend a day in pretty, pastel-painted of Alesund before cruising north, watching the skies in the hope of catching sight of the Northern Lights. See Tromsø’s towering cathedral, and spend two days in the Arctic port of Alta making the most of opportunities to discover the unique culture and traditions of Finnmark’s Sami reindeer herders. Explore some of world's most striking scenery as you head from the remote village of Honningsvaag to the North Cape Hall visitor centre at Nordkapp on an optional shore excursion, and visit Norway’s Viking capital, Trondheim, before calls in Andalsnes on spectacular Romsdalfjord and Bergen (the unofficial capital of the fjords) round off your cruise adventure.

Day 1

Depart from London Tilbury
Depart: 1600hrs Board Magellan in Tilbury, today, settle in to your cabin and relax as your cruise begins.

Day 2

Rotterdam, Netherlands
Arrive: 0900hrs Depart: 1600hrs Rotterdam is both a historic city of world-class museums, classically Dutch canals and cobbled squares, and a treasure trove of outlandish modern architecture. See the vast modern ’harp’ of the Erasmus Bridge and the Cube houses of Overblaak Street, and join the friendly crowd of locals to treat yourself from the food stalls that stand within the remarkable upturned U of the Markethal.

Day 4

Alesund, Norway
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 1900hrs Magellan's first Norwegian port is Alesund. Here you’ll have time to discover its beautiful natural harbour and waterfront lined with tall, pastel-painted buildings, and perhaps delve into the history and heritage of the region on a visit to the fascinating Sunnmore Museum.

Day 6

Tromso, Norway
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 2200hrs Tromso's magnificent Arctic Cathedral rises grandly from its bustling centre. Step ashore to explore the daily market, and perhaps to visit the fascinating Polarmuseum, which chronicles the lives and exploits of the likes of Amundsen and Nansen.

Days 7 to 8

Alta, Norway
Arrive: 1330hrs (Day Seven) Depart: 1900hrs (Day Eight) Spend two unforgettable days enjoying a taste of life in the Arctic as Magellan breaks her journey in Alta - capital of Finnmark, Norway’s northernmost region. Here you’ll have the chance to discover the nomadic traditions of the indigenous Sami people, see the ancient rock carvings at Hjemmeluft Bay, and perhaps even stop for a drink at the world-famous Ice Hotel.

Day 9

Honningsvaag, Norway
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1600hrs Today Magellan docks in the pretty, remote village of Honningsvaag, and you'll have the opportunity visit the famous visitor centre at Nordkapp, often cited as Europe’s northernmost point. Back on board, you'll cruise past Europe’s true north tip at Knivskjellodden, as Magellan turns back to the south.

Day 11

Trondheim, Norway
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 1800hrs Beautiful Trondheim, picturesquely set between a loop of the River Nid and stunning Trondheimsfjord, welcomes us this morning. Soak up the atmosphere of a city that was once the capital of Viking Norway. Head to imposing Nidaros cathedral, visit the restored Archbishop’s Palace, and see the impressive Stiftsgarden, which is now a royal residence.

Day 12

Andalsnes, Norway
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1700hrs Magellan cruises into beautiful Romsdalsfjord and makes her way to Andalsnes, today. From here, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy an excursion through some of Norway’s most spectacular mountain scenery, and perhaps a chance to visit the famous wooden Rodven stave church in its dreamy setting beside the fjord.

Day 13

Bergen, Norway
Arrive: 0900hrs Depart: 1600hrs This morning Magellan docks in Bergen. This ancient Hanseatic League city of cobbled streets and medieval houses was the birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg. Visit the vibrant harbour and fish market, stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Floibanen funicular to the summit of Floyen, best known of Bergen's "city mountains".

Arrive back in London Tilbury
Arrive: 0600hrs Say goodbye to Magellan, her crew and your fellow passengers as she arrives in Tilbury, today, and you disembark at the end of a wonderful cruise. Back to top
