Discover the stark but stunning scenery of the Land of Ice and Fire as Columbus cruises north from Tilbury. After time to explore the canal-side streets, museums, coffee shops and bars of Amsterdam, and the remote island capitals of Kirkwall on Orkney and Torshavn in the Faroes, you'll spend four days following the coast of Iceland anticlockwise.
The fascinating history and culture of the island-nation will be revealed as you call at four fascinating ports, including the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, where brightly painted buildings contrast sharply with the natural beauty of its setting beneath Mount Ejsa. Day 1Depart from London Tilbury
Depart: 1600hrs Board Columbus and settle into your cabin before she cruises from Tilbury this afternoon.
Day 2Rotterdam, Netherlands
Arrive: 0900hrs Depart: 1800hrs Columbus reaches her first port of call today: the Dutch maritime city of Rotterdam. Step ashore to see the stunning architecture of the Erasmus Bridge and the remarkable Markthal food market. Browse the World-class museums, explore the lovingly preserved Old Harbour and stroll past nearby Delfshaven's step-gabled houses and ancient wharves.
Day 3At sea
Spend your first full day at sea enjoying Columbus' excellent on-board facilities and getting to know the crew and your fellow passengers.
Day 4Kirkwall, Orkney Isles
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1600hrs Today Columbus arrives in Kirkwall, Orkney's historic capital. Wander the streets and marvel at magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, or join an excursion to fabled Scapa Flow, Churchill's famous Barriers or the Italian Chapel.
Day 5Torshavn, Faroes
Arrive: 0900hrs Depart: 1600hrs Torshavn, the tiny capital of the Danish Faroe Islands, is Columbus' destination today. The Faroes are a birdwatchers’ paradise in the heart of the Gulf Stream, and their inhabitants live surrounded by natural beauty. Discover Torshavn’s confusion of lanes and narrow passages, black-tarred houses with turf roofs and modern centre, or join an excursion to another part of the islands, perhaps crossing the famous ‘Bridge across the Atlantic’, which connects the main island of Streymoy with smaller Eysturoy.
Day 6Seydisfjordur, Iceland
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 1800hrs Today Columbus arrives in Iceland, stopping in the stunning natural harbour of Seydisfjordur, one of Iceland's most beautiful coastal locations. From here ferries and a sub-ocean telephone cable connect Iceland to the outside world. Wander the streets lined with Norwegian-style houses or head inland to discover yet more breathtaking countryside.
Day 7Akureyri, Iceland
Arrive: 0900hrs Depart: 1900hrs Akureyri, on Iceland's rugged north coast, is a thriving winter sports centre and home to a fascinating Botanical Garden. The area beyond is wondrously scenic, and today's excursion, to the Godafoss Falls and volcanic Lake Myvatn, will highlight many of its delights.
Day 8Isafjordur, Iceland
Arrive: 0800hrs Depart: 1700hrs This morning Columbus arrives in tiny, exquisite Isafjordur, the capital of the Westfjords area, and gateway to the magical, mystical land of West Iceland from which Norse sailors set out to discover Greenland and the New World.
Day 9Reykjavik, Iceland
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 2000hrs Reykjavik is the world's northernmost capital. Its brightly painted wooden buildings contrast sharply with the stunning beauty of its setting beneath Mount Ejsa. Step ashore to explore, take the lift to the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church for a panoramic view, or visit the fascinating Arbaer Folk Museum and the Saga Museum.
Days 10-12At sea
Relax on board and relive the memories your cruise holiday as Columbus spends three final days at sea, heading home.
Day 13Arrive back at London Tilbury
