Call in the former Brazilian capital, Salvador, stay overnight in glittering, intoxicating Rio, and visit elegant Buenos Aires and Uruguay’s colonial capital, Montevideo. Cruise south to the Falklands, Patagonia’s glaciers and around Cape Horn. Turning north, you'll take in Chile's Valparaiso and Peruvian Lima, and perhaps head overland to iconic, unforgettable Machu Picchu before cruising through the Panama Canal. Depart: 1600hrs Board Magellan in Tilbury, today, settle in to your cabin and relax as your cruise begins.
Day 2Rotterdam, Netherlands
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1400hrs Magellan reaches her first port of call today: the Dutch maritime city of Rotterdam. Step ashore to see the stunning architecture of the Erasmus Bridge and the remarkable Markthal food market. Browse the World-class museums, explore the lovingly preserved Old Harbour and stroll past nearby Delfshaven's step-gabled houses and ancient wharves.
Day 5Lisbon, Portugal
Arrive: 1300hrs Depart: 2000hrs Today Magellan calls in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from where the great explorers sailed to the New World. Enjoy an optional shore excursion through the maze of narrow, hilly streets of the historic Alfamar district, a striking contrast to the modern city’s glass and steel.
Day 7Madeira, Portugal
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1700hrs Madeira is a sun-blessed, lush, green sub-tropical paradise. Today we visit the island's capital, Funchal, a perfectly captivating port of call. Don't miss the exhilaration of a wickerwork 'toboggan' ride from Monte to Livramento!
Day 8Gran Canaria, Spain
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 2400hrs Arriving in the Canary Islands, Magellan calls at the great trading port of Las Palmas, gateway to Gran Canaria. Explore the bustling modern metropolis of Puerto de la Luz, or head to the palm-fringed squares of the old town, Vegueta. There will also be an optional excursion inland to take in some superb views.
Day 11Sao Vicente, Cape Verde Islands
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1400hrs The 10 volcanic isles that make up the Cape Verde archipelago are fast becoming a popular holiday haven, despite (or perhaps because of) their remote position. Spend the day in Mindelo, the pretty capital of Sao Vicente, admiring the attractive houses of this colonial outpost, or perhaps joining an optional shore excursion inland.
Days 17-22Amazon River Cruise, Brazil
Relax and enjoy the extraordinary journey up - and down - the Amazon River, as Magellan makes her stately way towards Manaus. There will be opportunities aplenty to head ashore by tender to discover a world surrounded by the equatorial forests. Highlights include the traditional 'stilted' village of Boca da Valeria, the monumental Teatro Amazonas Opera House in Manaus, and Santarem, the Amazon's third largest city. Head ashore, or take advantage of optional excursions that may include a visit to the giant hardwood trees of the region's fiercely protected primary forests, before Magellan turns around once more to cruise toward the ocean.
Day 26Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
Arrive: 1430hrs Depart: 2000hrs The former capital of Brazil, and one of its cultural centres, Salvador is a gorgeous city of elegant, colourful colonial buildings with a friendly, fun-loving atmosphere. Arrayed on a peninsula that shelters All Saints Bay from the Atlantic, it's also a city of two halves divided by a cliff - Cidade Alta stands on the clifftop, while Cidade Baixa lies down by the bay.
Days 29-30Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Arrive: 0700hrs (Day 29) Depart: 2400hrs (Day 30) Rio de Janeiro is one of the world’s most captivating ports. Nestled between the ocean and lush tropical mountains, it's known as the Marvellous City, and its famous landmarks include the 30-metre statue of Christ the Redeemer and majestic Sugar Loaf Mountain. While here, take the time to stroll the golden sands of the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.
Days 34-35Buenos Aires, Argentina
Arrive: 0700hrs (Day 34) Depart: 2000hrs (Day 35) Spend two full days in gloriously European Buenos Aires. The "Paris of the Americas" is a city filled with history, elegance and Spanish charm. Walk in the footsteps of Eva Peron, enjoy some of the Americas’ best food, and perhaps take advantage of the excellent (and great-value) shopping.
Day 36Montevideo, Uruguay
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1500hrs The picturesque, compact Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, on the eastern bank of the Rio del Plata, welcomes you, today. Head ashore to explore the colonial old town (Ciudad Vieja) and beach-front Rambla of this friendly city.
Day 39Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
Arrive: 0800hrs Depart: 1800hrs The Falklands are a nature-lover's paradise, and there's every chance of getting a glimpse of penguin chicks or a newborn seal pup on your fascinating day here. In the Falklands' northwest corner, Carcass Island is home to the Cobbs's Wren, as well as numerous songbirds and penguins.
Day 41Punta Arenas, Magellan Straits, Chile
Arrive: 0800hrs Depart: 1700hrs The remote Chilean settlement of Punta Arenas, at the foot of Southern Patagonia, is a mixture of the rugged and windswept with the modern and the elegant. Explore this remarkable township – reliant on the fishing, sheep-farming and, more recently, the petro-chemical industries – and perhaps pay a visit to a local penguin colony.
Day 42Cruising Alberto de Agostini National Park
Head out on deck, or settle yourself by a window, today, as Magellan begins cruising along the spectacular coastline of Alberto de Agostini National Park.
Day 43Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina
Arrive: 1300hrs Depart: 2030hrs Discover the world’s southernmost city – a thriving settlement and a must-see for avid travellers from around the globe. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Fuegan Andes, Ushuaia is part tourist town, part base camp for adventures into some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet, and it radiates an air of excitement.
Day 44Viewing Cape Horn, Argentina
Arrive: 0830hrs Depart: 0900hrs Look forward to a scenic day on board, as Magellan sails past the Cape Horn headland.
Day 45-47Cruising Stewart Island
Spend the next few days sailing west and north from Tierra del Fuego through a vast, rugged landscape of mountains, glaciers, islands and fjords. Soak up the unforgettable scenery as you cruise past Gordon, Londonberry, Stewart and London islands, along the Cruising Darwin and Moraleda Channels and past the Chonos Archipelago.
Day 48Puerto Montt, Chile
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1800hrs Spend the day in the port-city of Puerto Montt, looking inland to the soaring peaks of the Andes. The city is renowned as one of the world's largest salmon producers, and is considered the gateway to the spectacular Chilean Fjords.
Days 50-51Valparaiso, Chile
Arrive: 1100hrs (Day 50) Depart: 2000hrs (Day 51) Magellan spends two days in Valparaiso, from where you'll have the chance to visit Chile's capital city, Santiago. There, you'll discover the Plaza de Armas, grand neo-classical architecture, the bars and cafes of the triangular Barrio Centro, the leafy parks, the colourful markets, and the Bohemian quarter crammed with galleries and crafts shops.
Day 54Arica, Chile
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1800hrs This morning Magellan arrives in the northern Chilean port of Arica, on the border with Peru. Dominated by the imposing headland of El Morro, Arica is the gateway to the famed Parque Nacional Lauca, an area teeming with wildlife and birdlife, and the setting for the great twin volcanoes of Parincota and Pomerape.
Day 56Callao, Lima, Peru
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 2300hrs Callao, the port of the Peruvian capital Lima, greets Magellan this morning. Wander the city’s great Spanish Colonial squares - the Plaza Major and Plaza de Armas - and see the presidential Palace, imposing cathedral and the churches of Santo Domingo and San Francisco. Return to the ship this evening, or choose to set off on an unforgettable three-night optional shore excursion to the remarkable Inca city of Cuzco and to breathtaking, jungle-bound Machu Picchu (returning to Magellan in Guayaquil, Ecuador).
Days 59-60Guayaquil, Ecuador
Arrive: 0700hrs (Day 59) Depart: 1700hrs (Day 60) Bustling Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city, is our next port of call. A stopping-off point for many visitors to the Galapagos Islands, Guayquil boasts a glittering waterfront promenade, the Malecon 2000, which stretches for over two kilometres along the Rio Guayas. Relax, or join an optional overnight excursion to explore the exquisitely preserved colonial old town of Quito, the world’s highest capital city. Set high in an Andean Valley, Quito enjoys a year-round spring-like climate despite being just a few miles south of the Equator.
Day 63Panama Canal Passage, Panama
One of the more unusual highlight of your cruise will be today’s passage through the fascinating Panama Canal, the 82-kilometre "short cut" between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
Day 64Puerto Limon, Costa Rica
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1900hrs Blanketed in dense rainforest, packed with national parks and boasting over 850 recorded bird species, Costa Rica is an ecological treasure trove. Step ashore in Puerto Limon and set off on optional shore excursions into the lush landscape to see the colourful flora and fauna and explore the forest canopy.
Day 66Roatan, Honduras
Arrive: 1200hrs Depart: 2000hrs Spend a day in tropical paradise as Magellan calls at Roatan, the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands. Roatan is surrounded by a vibrant barrier reef that makes it hugely popular with divers from around the world, while on land it boasts stunning white-sand beaches and mountainous slopes carpeted in dense forest.
Day 67Belize, Belize City
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1500hrs The next stop on your grand voyage is Belize City, which sits between tropical rainforest and a colourful coral reef. Travel inland to discover ancient Maya temples or cross the turquoise waters to explore the nearby Cayes (islands).
Day 68Cozumel, Mexico
Arrive: 0800hrs Depart: 2100hrs Cozumel is a Mexican island fringed by a beautiful coral reef. This laid back, unashamedly cool holiday haven is famed for its excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities, and for its stunning marine reserve. From here, an optional excursion offers the chance to visit the magnificent ruins at Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World.
Day 71Freeport, Bahamas
Arrive: 0800hrs Depart: 1900hrs Freeport is a classic Bahamas port that mixes crystal-clear waters, palm-fringed white-sand beaches and laid-back barefoot beach bars with the glitzy energy of clubs, a casino and duty-free shopping.
Day 74Kings Wharf, Bermuda
Arrive: 0830hrs Depart: 1400hrs Tiny Bermuda has a reputation for elegance easily justified by the pastel-painted buildings of Hamilton's Front Street. The island's British heritage is also evident - in its Gothic Revival cathedral, its replica of Whitehall's cenotaph and air of understated gentility.
Day 79Sao Miguel, Azores
Arrive: 1400hrs Depart: 2200hrs Today's call is at Ponta Delgada, the cosmopolitan main town of Sao Miguel, the largest island in the Azores. Here you'll have the chance to explore what has been a favourite stopping off point of transatlantic adventurers for centuries.
Day 82Vigo, Spain
Arrive: 0700hrs Depart: 1800hrs Today Magellan makes her way into the stunning natural harbour of Ria de Vigo. A historic fishing port, Vigo bustles with life, especially in the cobbled streets of the old town where the day's catch is laid out on granite tables and cafes serve strong coffee to arriving fishermen and cruise holidaymakers alike.
