Frankfurt, Rüdesheim And The Classic Rhine Cruise
4 nights. March 2020 - November 2020. From £829.00.
A perfect introduction to river cruising
Join A-ROSA SILVA and sail south from the Rhineland capital, Cologne, to the famous wine town of Rüdesheim. After a delightful morning exploring the taverns, bars and picture book streets of this bustling town, including the colourful Drosselgasse, you’ll head to Mainz, capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate and once hometown of Johannes Gutenburg, the father of the printing press. Discover the six-towered cathedral, Gutenberg Museum and delightful Altstadt of half-timbered houses on an included walking tour. Turning from the Rhine into one of its many tributaries, the Main, you’ll cruise to Frankfurt. Here the glittering, modern city and the apple-wine taverns of historic Sachenhausen provide contrasting delights, and you’ll have opportunities to explore on optional excursions. Returning to the Rhine, you’ll sail through the Rhine Gorge, beneath the legendary Lorelei, and past idyllic towns and villages flanked by ripening vineyards, to make a final call at Koblenz, beneath its imposing castle, before returning to Cologne.

Day 1Fly, take the Eurostar from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet, or make your own way to Cologne, and board your sleek A-ROSA vessel at the quayside. Settle in to your comfortable cabin, enjoy a drink in the bar or a stroll on top deck as the ship begins her journey upriver. Sine when you wish, enjoying the freestyle dining service, and perhaps enjoy a nightcap before turning in.
Day 2Early this morning you’ll arrive in Rüdesheim, the most celebrated of the Rhine's wine towns. Explore the narrow streets, the most celebrated of which is the Drosselgasse, lined with bars and weinstuben (little, traditional wine taverns). Why not join an optional shore excursion, perhaps to see the quirky wonders of Siegfrieds Mechanischem Musikkabinett or to enjoy a wine tasting, before continuing your scenic cruise upstream. After a relaxed lunch on board, you’ll arrive in the picturesque Rhineland city of Mainz. Step ashore to discover this historic city on an included walking tour, and then explore under your own steam. Later, dine on board - tonight might be the occasion to enjoy an A-ROSA Dining Evening in the smart, more formal dining area – or spend a couple of enjoyable hours ashore in the city’s colourful Altstadt before A-ROSA SILVA sails on in the late evening.
Day 3Overnight A-ROSA SILVA will have slipped into the River Main, tying up beneath the glittering "Mainhattan" skyline of Frankfurt. Step ashore to explore or to join an optional shore excursion. Why not visit one of the city’s many outstanding museums, or take a ride up to the observation deck of the blue-glass Maintower for the stunning views? North of the river is Frankfurt's historic Altstadt, centred on Römerberg Square and surrounded by the remnants of ancient fortifications. Close by, the towering façade of the Kaiserdom church dominates the Altstadt's eastern end, only to be dwarfed in turn by the sky-piercing buildings of the Frankfurt Financial District to the west. South of the river, the delightful lanes of Sachsenhausen are home to countless cafés and bars where you can end your day relaxing over a glass of sharp Ebbelwoi cider, before A-ROSA SILVA sails on.
Day 4An unforgettable day awaits as you awake this morning to find yourself sailing through the heart of the Middle Rhine. You'll pass through the narrow gorge beneath the Lorelei, the steep slate rock from which sirens were said to have lured sailors to their fates, and cruise past vineyards and ancient villages like Sankt Goar and Bad Salzig. After lunch, you’ll tie up in Koblenz, which sits spectacularly at the meeting point of the Rhine and Moselle. A strategic stronghold for over 2000 years, Koblenz is dominated by the imposing mass of the mighty Ehrenbreitstein fortress on the far bank. Step ashore to explore the cosmopolitan town, and perhaps stroll along the riverside promenade to Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the rivers converge, or take a seat in a café or weinstube. Later, enjoy a last evening on board before your ship slips back out into the river and cruises downstream to Cologne.
Day 5Bid "Auf Wiedersehen" to A-ROSA SILVA and her crew, at the end of a marvellous few days, as you leave the ship behind to begin your journey home. Back to top
