Day 1Upon arrival, meet your tour manager and make the short transfer into the city and your hotel. Rest and relax after the journey and this evening, perhaps, enjoy your first taste of warm and welcoming Palma. Whether you choose to wander through streets of the Old Town, with its tapas bars, cafés and restaurants, to stroll along the sweeping seafront boulevard, or to wander the elegant shopping streets, you’ll discover a vibrant, colourful match for any mainland city.
Day 2Join your tour manager for a guided introduction to the Balearics’ largest and most important settlement. Enclosed by ancient walls, replaced in sections by wide boulevards, the Old Town is fronted by the monumental cathedral, La Seu, which in turn overlooks the sweeping harbour-front. Enjoy an included visit to the magnificent sandstone building, the world’s second-largest Gothic church, with its vast nave, ornate chapels and altar canopy designed by famed Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. This afternoon, explore the city, which in addition to the cathedral boasts the Moorish Palace that is the King of Spain’s official Mallorca residence, the turreted former stock exchange and the seafront Parc de la Mar, with its gigantic Miró mural centrepiece. Enjoy a second evening in the city.
Day 3Today features a wonderful journey from Palma into the interior, as you leave the city aboard the vintage Orange Blossom Train, journeying through the citrus and almond groves that surround the city – which flower at different times of the year - towards the towering Serra de Tramuntana, the pine-forest covered ribbon of mountains that separates the island’s sun-kissed interior from the rugged northwest coast. Journey though tunnels and across a viaduct, and enjoy some spectacular views as you head towards historic hill town Sóller. Upon arrival, take a stroll through the delightful lanes and bustling main square, set beneath its imposing church, then board the wonderfully quirky vintage tram for the 15-minute journey down to Port de Sóller, a delightful, low-key modern resort set on a crescent-shaped bay, where sheltered waters are fringed by a narrow sandy beach and beachside cafés and restaurants – a perfect place for lunch. This afternoon, the wonderful day continues with a further tour of the beautiful, rugged coast and the mountains beyond. Take in pretty Deia, former home to poet Robert Graves, as well as hill town Valldemossa, where composer Chopin and his lover, novelist George Sand, once spent a winter in a monastic cell, part of a complex of church, cloisters and monastery that is now open to visitors. Return to Palma after a wonderful day
Day 4Today you're free to enjoy the delights of Palma once again, or to join an optional excursion to one of the island’s increasingly celebrated wine-producers. Learn how grape varieties have been re-introduced to Mallorca to take advantage of its perfect climate and good soil conditions, and how quality has been improved over the past decades. Taste a selection of island vintages accompanied by local produce, including ham, cheese and bread dipped in olive oil.
Day 5The last included tour sees you head east across the island’s central plain, Es Pla, towards the Serres de Llevant hills and the beautiful, unspoiled coastal strip beyond. Take in ancient Arta, famed for its basket-weaving, and the fortified town of Capdepera with its stout walls. Several wonderful beaches and less developed resorts dot the largely unspoiled coast, which is lapped by some of the Mediterranean’s bluest waters. A final highlight of the holiday will be the visit to the extraordinary limestone caverns of the Cuevas del Drach, one of the island’s most striking attractions. Head underground to explore some stupendous chasms, which boast fantastical, stunningly illuminated stalactite and stalagmite formations, as well several subterranean lakes, upon which boat rides might be taken. Return to Palma at the end of a wonderful day, to spend a last evening in the city.
Day 6Dependent upon your flight time, enjoy a few more hours in Palma, before transferring to the airport for the flight home, at the end of a delightful few days. Back to top
Hotel transfer timesThe transfer time from the airport to your hotel on arrival is approximately 20 minutes.
Itinerary ChangesPlease note, the tour may operate in reverse, with the tram/train journey taken back to Palma in the afternoon. Also, despite its name, the train will only afford views of the orange blossom during certain spring months, usually late March and April. Almond blossom occurs earlier in the year. Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
Special requirementsIf you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
Combining hotel transfersWe sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.
Disabled accessThe majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
