Day 1Fly to Vienna, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your comfortable hotel in the heart of the city. Settle in to your room, and perhaps head out to explore or enjoy a drink at the bar before dinner.
Day 2Today's guided tour will introduce the Baroque palaces, great Gothic St Stephan’s Cathedral, sweeping main square and colonnades and boulevards of Vienna's elegant Innere Stadt. See the Hofburg – once an imperial palace, and now home to the Spanish Riding School, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, several museums and the Austrian President. There are stunning views on offer to those willing to climb to the top of the cathedral spire, and fantastic coffee and cake available in the city's many traditional Kaffeehausen. Elsewhere, Christmas markets - in the idyllic lanes of Spittelberg, on the triangular Freyung 'square', in front of the Town Hall, and in the courtyard of the Schonbrunn Palace on the outskirts of the city – add to the magic.
Day 3Spend a morning exploring the rolling forests and vineyards of the Wienerwald (Vienna Woods) - once a favourite retreat of Beethoven and a popular hunting ground for the Viennese elite. Visit the 12th-century abbey at Heiligenkreuz and the hunting lodge at Mayerling to hear tales of life in the area - and the occasional royal scandal - from your guide. Return to the hotel to begin your Christmas celebrations with a special meal this evening.
Day 4Make the most of a leisurely Christmas Day at your hotel. Take a walk, exchange gifts, enjoy an included Christmas lunch, then simply relax before rounding off your day with another meal with newfound friends this evening.
Day 5Rest and relax on Boxing Day, or join our optional excursion to Slovakia’s beautiful capital Bratislava. This cosmopolitan city, a little further down the Danube, is another place where East meets West, where glorious Baroque palaces and churches sit comfortably alongside modern landmarks like Novy Most - the futuristic bridge across the Danube that seems to have a UFO parked on its top. Wander the Christmas Markets on the Main Square or nearby Hviezdoslav Square, and perhaps take in the view from the Old Town Hall’s tower or from Novy Most's UFO (actually a restaurant and observation deck) before we return to Vienna.
Day 6Bid farewell to Vienna, and transfer back to the airport to catch your flight home. Back to top
