Day OneStep aboard your cruise ship, Magellan, and settle into your welcoming cabin before the ship sails from Liverpool.
Day TwoToday finds us in the great city of culture and learning, Dublin. Home to Joyce, Yeats, Wilde and Swift, birthplace of Shaw, and one of Europe's most engaging capitals, its streets teem with shoppers, and the famous bars and pubs buzz with the energy of happy locals and visitors alike.
Day ThreeToday is spent at sea, offering the chance to relax and enjoy the many amenities aboard your new floating home.
Day FourAs Magellan reaches northern Spain she makes a call at the historic port of A Coruna, or La Coruna. Step ashore to explore the atmospheric medieval quarter, stroll the extensive seafront promenade, or perhaps take a shore excursion to fabled Santiago de Compostela.
Day FiveEnjoy a restful day at sea.
Day SixToday, Magellan calls at the very British outpost of Gibraltar, beneath the mighty Rock marking the point where the Mediterranean spills out into the Atlantic Ocean. Step ashore to explore bustling Main Street, or take the cable car to the heights above, where the views stretch from the Straits to North Africa and Barbary macaques roam the path.
Day SevenRelax on board as you spend another leisurely day at sea.
Day EightOur first call in the Canary Islands is Arrecife, capital of Lanzarote, the sun-baked and colourful holiday isle. Its black sand beaches fringe warm waters, and a visit here offers the chance to see the island's 'fire mountain', and perhaps even the opportunity to take a camel ride to the edge of a volcano.
Day NineMagellan ties up in the Canaries' great trading port of Las Palmas, gateway to Gran Canaria, today. Step ashore to explore the bustling metropolis of modern Puerto de la Luz, or head to the palm-fringed squares of the old town, Vegueta, and perhaps take an optional shore excursion inland for some superb views.
Day 10Today is spent on the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, where Magellan will dock in the principal port of Santa Cruz. Discover the land that boasts 'the whole world in one day' - from a swim in warm waters to throwing snowballs on the slopes of Mt Teide, and from the glitz of the capital's shopping malls to stunning gardens, banana plantations, and forests of giant pines.
Day 11Some 500 miles off the coast of Africa, Madeira is one of the world's most beautiful islands. This sun-blessed subtropical paradise is home to some of the most vibrant and exotic flora on Earth. Relax in the island capital, Funchal, where you can visit the wonderful Botanical Gardens, or perhaps race downhill from Monte to Livramento in a wickerwork 'toboggan'.
Day 12Today will be spent at sea, relaxing and enjoying life on board.
Day 13Magellan's final call is the historic Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from where adventurers set out in search of the New World during the great Age of Exploration. An optional shore excursion today will introduce the city - including the Alfama district, where time seems to stand still.
Days 14-15Spend two days relaxing on board as Magellan makes her return journey to Liverpool.
Day 16Magellan arrives back in Liverpool at the end of a wonderful summer cruise. Back to top
At 46,000-tonnes and with a passenger complement of around 1100, spacious Magellan retains a sense of traditional cruising and small-ship intimacy, thanks to the beautiful layout and tasteful contemporary style of her public areas, and of course the presence of her friendly, welcoming crew and cruise staff. A major refit in 2010 has ensured her position as a thoroughly modern, bright and supremely comfortable floating home, and she is a hugely welcome addition to the fleet.
Passenger accommodation is arranged on nine spacious decks served by eight lifts, wide corridors and stairways. Extensive teak decking adds to sense of spaciousness, and in addition to the extensive outdoor areas, there are several beautifully appointed lounges boasting panoramic picture windows. Two beautifully appointed dining rooms, the Waldorf and the Kensington, as well as a less formal buffet-style bistro that offers indoor and outdoor dining, will tempt you at mealtimes, and there are three lounge bars and three deck bars where you can while away a convivial hour or two. Other on-board amenities include a night club, a casino and the magnificent, multi-tiered Magellan Show Lounge. For the energetic and body-conscious, Magellan offers a beautifully appointed wellness centre, a gym, two pools and Jacuzzis. A well-stocked shopping gallery, internet centre and library can also be found on board.
Magellan's 15 categories of cabin and suite are graded according to size and position. Each cabin is air-conditioned, and has ample storage space, a safe, a TV, a hairdryer and private facilities with a shower. All ocean-view cabins have picture windows apart from eight Cat 6 cabins and 10 Cat 7 cabins, towards the front of the ship, which have portholes.
