Travelling by comfortable coach from your local area, this morning, you'll make your way to the port for your Channel crossing to France. You'll arrive at your Christmas hotel by the early evening, and be able to settle in and relax with a welcome drink while getting to know your travelling companions, before dinner is served.
Today we'll explore Rouen, the lovingly restored capital of Upper Normandy. See the Place du Vieux-Marche, site of Joan of Arc's martyrdom; the one-handed mechanical clock, the Gros Horloge; and the chalets and stalls of Rouen's Christmas Market by the stunning Gothic cathedral.
We'll also visit the exquisite fishing port of Honfleur, a favourite retreat of the French Impressionists. Its 17th-century harbour surrounded by quaint, gabled houses is unforgettable at Christmastime, and around the marina of the Quai Sainte-Catherine you'll find an elegant little Christmas market.
Day Three (Christmas Eve)
Today's visits include Bayeux, where you'll head to the museum housing the UNESCO-listed tapestry depicting the 1066 invasion of England by William the Conqueror. A Norman-Gothic cathedral dominates the town, and you'll have time to wander the cobbled streets past half-timbered medieval houses before re-boarding the coach to continue to Caen.
A cosmopolitan Christmas market takes centre stage in Caen's 18th-century Place Saint-Sauveur, surrounded by beautiful buildings. See its magnificent tree, covered in 16,000 lights, and watch the spectacular Illumination Show at the Town Hall before we return to the hotel for dinner.
Day Four (Christmas Day)
Enjoy a Christmas Day to remember, full of rest, relaxation and fun, as well as a leisurely four-course Christmas lunch, a light dinner and evening entertainment.
Day Five (Boxing Day)
Rest and relax in the hotel, or join our optional excursion to UNESCO-listed Mont Saint-Michel, one of France's most stunning sights. Connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, and at times cut off by high tide, the magnificent 11th-century Benedictine abbey (entry not included) dominates the island. Weather-permitting, you'll be able to climb to the top of the mount, through narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses, and take in the spectacular views.
Today, you'll enjoy a 'Taste of Normandy', first visiting the historic, 100-year-old E Graindorge cheese dairy, where you'll see the production process and discover the secrets of three generations of cheesemakers, before tasting some delicious Normandy cheese yourself and also visiting the ageing cellar of the prestigious Chateau du Breuil Calvados distillery for a guided tour and a double tasting, of Pommeau and 15-year-old Calvados.
Bid farewell to your hosts, and depart during the late morning for you return journey home after a wonderful Christmas holiday.Back to top
