VE Day 80: The Party’ will celebrate a pivotal day in our modern history through an evening of music-led storytelling.

Exactly 80 years on, it is one of the final Second World War anniversaries for the country to mark alongside those who lived through it; The Greatest Generation.

8 May 1945 was a day of celebration with the streets brimming with people singing and dancing; bittersweet for many who had lost loved ones in the war or were waiting for their safe return.

The RAF Squadronaires, part of The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, will take the audience back in time with iconic 1940s favourites, while the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will perform the nation’s best loved classical anthems, both joined by guest vocalists, with performances and narration by stars from stage and screen.

Held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London, this famous venue is always a magical experience so enjoy these spectacular surroundings for what is set to be one of London’s most special events this year. This special short break also includes free time in the fabulous city of London.

Itinerary

Day 1

Join your coach this morning for your journey towards London and your overnight hotel. There is time to settle-in and freshen-up and then later, the coach will take you to the Royal Albert Hall. The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm. The coach will be waiting to take you back to your hotel after the show.

Day 2

After a good night's sleep, enjoy a hearty breakfast before we leave our hotel.

Today, we offer the choice of a visit to Knightsbridge, one of London’s most iconic districts and a haven for luxury shopping. From the legendary Harrods to the chic Harvey Nichols, this stylish neighbourhood is renowned for world-class boutiques, flagship stores, and exquisite finds. Beyond shopping, its elegant streets feature charming cafés, fine dining, and picturesque spots, making every moment here an unforgettable experience. Nearby you can also find some of London’s most celebrated museums. Explore the V&A Museum for art and design masterpieces, the Natural History Museum for awe-inspiring exhibits like dinosaur skeletons, or the Science Museum for interactive displays that captivate all ages.

Alternatively we continue into central London dropping you near to the fabulous Covent Garden. Have free time to explore, see the sights and shop. Make the most of the amazing shopping opportunities and attractions, and explore the city that has something for everyone! Covent Garden is a great choice for browsing stalls, shops and great eateries and bars, or try nearby Seven Dials for a quirky change. South Bank is a short walk away with various attractions including the fabulous London Eye. If you want to see the sights, hop on a bus or try the Thames Clippers for a great hop on hop off waters eye view. And when it comes to eating choices, the world is yours!

The iconic Royal Albert Hall will host ‘VE Day 80: The Party’, a concert to mark the end of the Second World War, on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Experience an evening of music-led storytelling, featuring 1940s favourites courtesy of the Royal Air Force Squadronaires, the nation’s best-loved classical anthems performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and guest vocalists. They will be joined by stars of stage and screen.

The event will feature untold personal accounts of those who were there 80 years ago to the day, as well as the key moments that led to the end of the Second World War in Europe. This special evening will also reflect upon and look ahead to the VJ Day 80th anniversary in August.
