The Million Line Railway & Maastricht
One of the most beautiful railroad lines in the Netherlands! Experience a journey on the South Limburg Steam Railway, known as the “Million Railway”, a nickname it inherited due to the huge cost of its construction. Take a nostalgic trip back in time and enjoy a journey taking in the picturesque rolling South Limburg hills and immerse yourself in the enchanting landscape. In the afternoon, head to Maastricht, the southernmost city in the Netherlands, also known as the ‘Paris of the Benelux'. This beautiful old city lies on the River Meuse and has a wealth of historic buildings, stylish shops and fine bars and restaurants. Maybe take some time out to explore the network of underground passageways and vaults beneath the city, where a large part of the Netherlands’ art treasures were safeguarded during World War II.
Aachen, The Eifel Mountains & Monschau
Venture to the three countries ‘meeting point’, where Belgium, Holland and Germany come together. We then continue to Aachen, ancient capital of the Frankish Empire, where you enjoy some free time to explore and view the impressive sights of this historic city including the UNESCO protected Cathedral and Town Hall. We then drive through the stunning scenery of the Eifel Mountains, where the remote countryside is amazingly unspoilt and is one of the most beautiful areas in western Germany. Our journey takes us to Monschau, a charming picture-postcard village known for its medieval centre, half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets overlooked by a medieval castle and we spend a few hours at leisure here, exploring the idyllic townscape.Valkenburg
Valkenburg is located in the South Limburg part of Holland, famous for its beautiful undulating scenery and pretty villages. As the oldest tourist centre in the Netherlands, Valkenburg itself boasts many attractions. It is famous for its historic caves with a network of over 150 miles of underground corridors beneath the town. A visit to these fascinating caves is highly recommended (opening varies seasonally). There is plenty to keep you occupied above ground as well, such as the striking Valkenburg Castle ruins, the only castle in the country built on a hill. There are also many shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Back to topAccommodation
