If you like shopping, there are also a number of markets held throughout the week including an outdoor market held on a Wednesday and Saturday, and a popular indoor Pannier Market. The town also provides access to some great parks and outdoor spaces - Decoy Country Park, Courtenay Park and Bakers Park can all be found within walking distance of the centre, as can the Town Quay and new bridge.
DawlishINCLUDED Visitor DestinationThe Regency resort town of Dawlish nestles attractively between steep surrounding hills at its heart, together with the picturesque settlements of Cockwood and Holcombe and the popular nature reserve of Dawlish Warren. The railway sweeps along the entire seafront and beach, with character cottages, impressive villas, narrow streets, bustling shops and welcoming tea rooms just a taste of what Dawlish has to offer. The long golden sandy beach makes this a popular traditional seaside town, but a host of interesting shops and cafes centred around The Lawn and Brook are a must see attraction. The Lawn offers a lovely green space for picnics and a stroll, and the Brook is home to the towns famous black swans which have been residents in Dawlish since the early 1900's. The South Devon Railway Line runs through the town, and is considered one of the most scenic railway lines in Britain between Exeter and Newton Abbot with wonderful views along the Exe Estuary as it travels just a few metres from the shoreline.
DartmoorINCLUDED Visitor DestinationExperience the dramatic windswept scenery of beautiful Dartmoor, home to the wild Dartmoor ponies that you are sure to encounter (along with the occasional sheep in the road) as you journey the winding roads to the main town of Princetown. It’s thought that Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle penned his most famous work, The Hound of the Baskervilles, during a stay at the Old Duchy Hotel, now the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre in the heart of Princetown. The austere and foreboding Dartmoor Prison, built during the Napoleonic Wars, is the most iconic and famous part of Princetown, and the jail is still an important part of the country’s prison service, adding to the haunting atmosphere of the moor. With wild, open moorlands and deep river valleys, with a rich history and rare wildlife, Dartmoor is a unique place to experience and be inspired by.
