In 2026, its theme, 'A Call to Gather', invites audiences to unite at the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade for an unforgettable evening of spectacle, storytelling, and celebration. 

With a unique ability, through its performers, music, and setting, to evoke the emotions and stir the senses like nothing else, the Tattoo will wow audiences once again. You'll be staying at the comfortably furnished Rob Roy Hotel in Aberfoyle, conveniently located with easy access to Edinburgh and the Trossachs. That location is important because it means that as well as taking you to the Tattoo, we are perfectly placed to take you on delightful scenic tour of the Trossachs. You can also enjoy a visit to Stirling during your time in Scotland. This is a lovely little tour that will fill you with happy memories and gives you time to really enjoy them.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is Scotland’s biggest, bestselling outdoor spectacle. The venue itself is situated in the most popular part of the city on Edinburgh Castle’s doorstep, high above the skyline. For this reason, customers with limited mobility, those with heart or respiratory problems and those that suffer from vertigo, may find access more challenging. Itinerary

Day 1

Join your comfortable coach this morning. Sit back and relax for our long journey north with convenient stops, crossing the border into bonnie Scotland and the charming town of Aberfoyle, known as the gateway to the Highlands. On arrival late afternoon/early evening take time to settle in to your comfortable hotel ready to sample the best in Scottish hospitality. Maybe take time for a wee dram at the bar before your first delicious dinner, with time to meet fellow travellers and before your adventure begins.

Day 2

Enjoy a delicious Scottish breakfast this morning and be prepared to be amazed on this, the day of the Tattoo. You will have a free morning with lunch instead of dinner today before you set off To Edinburgh in the early afternoon for some free time in the city before the highlight of your trip, the Edinburgh Tattoo and the evening performance which usually begins at 21:30hrs.

It is a 15 minute walk into the charming village of Aberfoyle on the banks of the River Forth in the magnificent Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. It has an attractive main street and is well served with individual shops, cafés and restaurants. Learn more about the area's natural beauty and history at the Trossachs Discovery Centre. The Scottish Wool Centre relates the full story of wool, from sheep to the shops, through live sheep shows and hands-on demonstrations of spinning and working sheepdogs.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a spectacular like no other, set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Expect the magnificent sounds of the Massed Pipes and Drums filling up the Esplanade alongside performances from the incredibly talented Tattoo Pipes and Drums and Tattoo Dancers. Finally, glorious fireworks colour the night sky to mark the end of this incredible event.

Please note: There will be a late return to the hotel in the early hours of the next morning so there will not be any chance for snacks or refreshments when we arrive back. Fireworks are subject to weather conditions.

Day 3

Have a leisurely start following our late return last night before enjoying a filling Scottish breakfast. You can choose to just relax and enjoy the hotel's facilities and nearby Aberfoyle or join us on our half day excursion to Stirling. Return to your hotel late afternoon for a relaxing evening and some more delicious Scottish fayre.

Day 4

After another tasty breakfast, get ready to enjoy another great day in Scotland! 

It's impossible to come to Scotland without taking in some of the scenery. On your tour of the stunning Trossachs National Park you'll see some of Scotland’s most beautiful countryside including plunging glens, sprawling lochs and enchanting villages.  Return to the hotel in the evening for more tasty food and the opportunity to share stories with your fellow travellers.

Day 5

After an amazing few days enjoy a final hearty Scottish breakfast this morning before saying 'bye for noo' and heading homewards with amazing memories, new friends and no doubt a few souvenirs!

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Each year you can expect stirring performances of the Massed Pipes and Drums and the Massed Military Bands that emerge from the huge castle gates, playing the inspiring battle tunes of Scotland's famed regiments. This amazing spectacle celebrates musicians and performers from all around the world and opens Scotland’s arms to welcome spectators from near and far to join in the fun. With changing yearly themes, each Tattoo is different from the previous one. Past themes have included concepts such as Scotland’s homecoming, creativity and nature. The Tattoo is an iconic Edinburgh institution and is brought to an emotional and poignant close each evening as a lone piper, spot lit high on the castle ramparts, plays a haunting lament. At its heart is beautiful Loch Lomond itself, in the shadow of the mighty bulk of Ben Lomond, Scotland’s most southerly Munro, as well as the jagged shoulders of the Arrochar Alps. Take a scenic drive through this stunning National Park from your base in Aberfoyle up to the pretty town of Callander. You'll see some of Scotland’s most beautiful countryside including plunging glens, sprawling lochs and enchanting villages. Pass the beautiful Loch Venacher, which is surrounded by stunning woodland and offers incredible views. There will be ample time for photo stops and for a good walk around Callander, known as the Gateway to the Highlands.

Stirling

A wee city with a big history, Stirling punches well above its weight for historic attractions and spectacular scenery, not to mention shopping, places to eat and exciting events. Enjoy the fabulous views from Stirling Castle across to the National Wallace Monument and then over to the mountain peaks of the Trossachs. Browse this compact city's range of bars, restaurants and shops and pick up some local treats whilst also enjoying the Victorian splendour of the Old Town. This ancient town has been home to some of Scotland's most epic events and memorable figures. Stirling Castle with its Royal Palace and Regimental Museum sits majestically at the top of the cobbled main street, with it's steep walls fabled for plots and intrigue. The 12th century Church of the Holy Rude also sits on the city's highest hill, and was the setting for the coronation of James VI in 1567. The nearby National Wallace Monument overlooks the the scene of the nation's hero William Wallace's greatest victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. The city is a home to history and romantic and courageous heroes for you to experience in its ancient streets.

This comfortable hotel is situated a mile from Aberfoyle and at the gateway to the Trossachs in beautiful countryside, where one of Scotland’s most famous figures, ‘Rob Roy MacGregor’ once roamed. Hotel facilities include a restaurant, bar, dance-floor and lounge. Guest bedrooms have tea/coffee making facilities. Most rooms are on the ground floor but there is also a lift.
