Newquay, one of the nation's favourite seaside towns, exudes the laid back atmosphere you would expect from a town perched on Cornwall's Atlantic cliffs and bordered by 7 miles of glorious golden sandy beaches. It's a place where all the family gets to relax and enjoy a proper holiday - toes in the sand, ice-cream in hand - or wrapped up warm in a cosy seafront cafe or pub! There's a different beach for every day of the week and glorious open spaces looking out to sea. The town manages to be both trendy and yet remains a great family resort - all wrapped up in the most fantastic coastal scenery.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
The hotel is ideally located, just 200 yards from the Tolcarne Beach, considered one of the best in the area and only a short stroll from Newquay town centre. The hotel boasts its own heated indoor swimming pool with hot tub and sauna as well as a snooker and games room. There is live entertainment nightly and spacious lounges offer plenty of space to relax in. There is a lift to all floors, free wifi and comfortable accommodation.
After joining the coach at one of our local pick up points, we head for Cornwall and the charming seaside resort of Newquay. There will be convenient coffee/lunch stops along the way and we expect to arrive at the Barrowfield Hotel in the late afternoon. After checking in and unpacking, relax in the hotel bar or take the opportunity to take a wander into Newquay to get our bearings - and maybe a quick pint or cup of tea? Properly fortified, look forward to a delicious dinner and evening of great entertainment at the hotel.
Days 2 - 4
Enjoy hearty traditional English breakfasts every day along with ample time to explore Newquay on your own. Make sure you join us for our INCLUDED excursions to St Ives & Marazion and to Truro (with guided walking tour) and Mevagissey. Return to the Barrowfield every evening for more tasty dinners and excellent entertainment.
After a final breakfast it is sadly time to make our way home. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break, we continue homewards.
Truro (guided walking tour)
Truro is a beautiful city, with its uniqueness lying very much in its history. In the 19th and 20th centuries Truro was a very busy port and prior to that it had attracted wealthy merchants and bankers, who built fine houses, turning Truro into a fashionable place. Enjoy the interesting mix of specialist shops and stores set amongst its quaint, cobbled streets. We will have a guide to introduce us to some of Truros most interesting places and spaces.
The centrepiece here is the harbour itself, an unusual twin design surrounded by colourful slate-roofed cottages and dramatic coastal scenery. Narrow streets plus steep valley sides lead down to the centre of the old Mevagissey where you will find most of the town's energy.
St Ives is the proud winner of a showcase of national awards including best family holiday destination by Coast magazine and one of the 10 best European beach destinations compiled by TripAdvisor. It’s no wonder then that the town has been attracting artists for decades who come to capture the area’s undeniable natural beauty. It started with J M W Turner and the marine artist Henry Moore who first came to St Ives in the mid-1800s and since then the town has become a magnet for some of the world’s greatest painters, sculptors and ceramists.
Not far from Penzance, Marazion is a small town with a few pubs and hotels, souvenir shops and a lovely beach. Stand on the beach and your view will be filled with the wonderful sight that is St Michael's Mount. A picturesque scene, this rocky island in Mount's Bay is crowned by a medieval church and castle.
