Spectacular County Clare
2018 - Treacy’s West Country Hotel - 7 Days (AUD0221)
The county of Clare, in Ireland’s mid-west, is often described as ‘Traditional Ireland’ with lots of pretty villages dotted with historical relics. It houses the unique scenery of the Burren National Park and the world famous Cliffs of Moher. The town of Ennis is known as a centre for traditional Irish music and dates back to the 11th century. This friendliest of places exudes character and good humour with its narrow streetscapes, quaint shops and shop fronts. It also has many pedestrianised streets, monuments and markets which give the whole town a medieval feeling.
En route to our base in County Clare, you will be able to enjoy more of the delightful Irish countryside as you pass the Galty Mountains and Tipperary before moving on to stop in Limerick to visit 15th Century Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, the west of Ireland’s most visited attraction. It’s impressive ‘Folk Park’ features over 30 buildings in a 19th century ‘living’ village. The village offers excellent shopping, restaurants and a number of pubs, including the famous ‘Durty Nellys’. On our return journey we stop at the famous Rock of Cashel. With its well-preserved ecclesiastical remains this is one of Ireland’s spectacular landmarks, rising above the surrounding plain and dominating the land route south.

The Burren, Ailwee Caves & Cliffs of Moher
The region known as The Burren is an amazing two hundred square-mile limestone ‘moonscape’ wilderness. A unique area of strange beauty and mystery, it is one of the world’s prime nature reserves and of great interest to geologists and botanists with its unique karst landscape that incorporates fossils, rock formations and glacial-era limestone. From here we make our way to Ailwee Caves, one of the oldest caves in Ireland. Our guided tour takes us on a stroll through the beautiful caverns and we’ll marvel at the rock formations and frozen waterfalls. Finally we visit the dramatic and beautiful Clare coast line, with the mighty Cliffs of Moher rising in a sheer vertical wall 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you will enjoy the most stunning views and on a clear day one can see both the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. During your time at the Cliffs, you’ll have plenty of time to walk the coastal walkways and experience the magnificent views.
We head of for a full day visit to Galway City. There is a certain chemistry and vibrancy to this friendly city, music, festivals, horse racing, pubs, restaurants, shops, theatres and most of all Galway people, combine to create this atmospheric medieval city. Along with being a popular seaside destination with beautiful beaches and a long winding promenade, it has also got a bustling cosmopolitan and rather bohemian centre. With cobbled streets, colourful shop facades and a vibrant café bar culture, ‘Old Ireland’ is present too with turf fires and traditional music featuring in many pubs to compliment your enjoyment of a well-earned pint of Guinness.
