Isle of Wight Steam Railway

INCLUDED Visitor Destination

As a living, breathing, working museum, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a popular and fascinating destination. Beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages, often hauled by 19th century locomotives, take visitors on a leisurely 10-mile journey through the island's unspoilt countryside. Experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of over 150 years of railway history. Inside the (stationary!) museum you will find displays of our Victorian and Edwardian carriages alongside a collection of our rare rolling stock, all preserved undercover and protected from the elements, allowing more time to restore other historic vehicles. They aren’t shut behind glass though – in fact, if they are unlocked you can step aboard for a closer inspection. Kids will love dressing up as drivers and guards and re-enacting stories from the past. Follow the timeline detailing the history of steam railways through to the modern day electric line and find out why May Joyce is such an important person to the history of railways on the Island.

Godshill

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationA visit to the picture perfect village of Godshill is a must on any visit to the Isle of Wight, with its medieval church and thatched cottages showcasing some of the prettiest scenes on the island. Browse some of the fascinating craft shops offering local gifts and produce, enjoy a cream tea at one of the cute cafes, or visit the popular model village. Back to top
