Rosslyn Chapel has been a venerated landmark in South Scotland for hundreds of years thanks to its magnificent ornate stonework and otherworldly atmosphere. The beauty of its setting, in rural Midlothian, and its mysterious symbolism have inspired, attracted and intrigued writers, artists and visitors ever since. This atmospheric chapel became world-renowned thanks to Dan Brown’s bestselling book The Da Vinci Code, but it will remain a treasure because of its unique interior, and fascinating association with the Knights Templar. Chapel Guides give regular free talks throughout the day which cover some of the Chapel’s history, the family’s story and highlight some of the key carvings. Talks usually last around 10/15 minutes and normally take place inside the Chapel. Some may take place outside, especially during summer months. Information talks are optional and visitors are welcome to continue looking round during them. Maps of the Chapel’s carvings are also available for visitors.

Nestled amongst the rolling Border hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the gorgeous Border town of Peebles straddles the glorious River Tweed - world renowned for its salmon fishing. The towns motto is drawn from its strong association with the Tweed - "CONTRA NANDO INCREMENTUM" or "increase by swimming against the current" - but the river is only one of the many treasures that Peebles has offer.

Made a Royal Burgh in 1152 by King David I of Scotland, Peebles has for many years been a market town cherished by locals and visitors alike, valued for its picturesque and unspoilt character. You wouldn't be the first to feel inspired by this artsy town, with many notable residents including John Buchan, the Scottish novelist, choosing to make their home here.

If you fancy a bit of shopping, Peebles High Street has a multitude of various independent shops and that classic old-worldly feel, definitely worth a visit. At the Tweeddale Museum you can learn about the area’s fascinating history. There are also many walking routes for all abilities or simply take a stroll along the banks of the River Tweed.
