You can also enjoy a scenic trip across Exmoor National Park with its inspiring landscape before reaching the picturesque resort of Lynmouth where we have time to explore the narrow streets and harbour. Day 4After breakfast, it is time to say farewell to the Durrant House Hotel. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break, relax as you continue homewards.
ExmoorA unique landscape of moorland, woodland, valleys and farmland, shaped by people and nature over thousands of years. Where high cliffs plunge into the Bristol Channel, and cosy pubs and tearooms offer delicious local produce. On Exmoor it is still possible to find tranquillity and peace as well as rediscover your sense of adventure; to catch a glimpse of wild red deer, be amazed by dark skies full of stars, and explore villages full of character.
LynmouthINCLUDED Visitor DestinationThe picturesque village of Lynmouth on the northern edge of Exmoor provides an escape from modern living with its rows of charming fishing cottages and shops that cluster around the pretty harbour of gently bobbing boats. Lynmouth straddles the confluence of the West Lyn and East Lyn rivers, in a gorge 700 feet below the village of Lynton, to which it is connected by the cliff railway, the highest and steepest fully water powered Victorian railway in the world. Lynmouth is at sea level with a small harbour and Rhenish Tower dominating the harbour wall. The High Street is pedestrian-only with some fascinating shops to enjoy. The Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre is next to the cliff railway and has interactive displays, lots of information and a small theatre showing videos of Exmoor.
TivertonINCLUDED Visitor DestinationTiverton is a busy market town situated in the middle of scenic Devon. The name was originally Twyfyrde, meaning town of two fords, and Tiverton stands on two rivers - the Lowman and the Exe. The town was once the industrial centre of Devon’s fabric trade and the rivers provided sources of power for the woollen industry. Tiverton's bustling town centre is a shopper's paradise, offering a mix of independent boutiques, traditional markets, and well-known brands. Explore the charming streets lined with unique shops, antiques stores, and craft emporiums. Indulge in delicious local cuisine at one of the town's cosy pubs or eateries, where you can savour traditional Devonshire cream teas, freshly caught seafood, and mouthwatering farm-to-table dishes. With the Museum of Mid Devon Life, Tiverton Craft Centre and many fine merchant's buildings, there is plenty to see and do in this historic town.
BidefordINCLUDED Visitor DestinationNestled alongside the River Torridge, the ancient market town and port of Bideford has a delightful setting for a visit. Once Britain’s third largest port, Bideford is a thriving shopping centre with an historic Pannier Market and many antique shops and cafes amongst the narrow backstreets and alleyways that lead up from the quay.
