Winchester

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationAn unspoilt cathedral city on the edge of the rolling South Downs, Winchester is England's ancient capital and former seat of King Alfred the Great. Today, Winchester combines the best of city life with the freshness of the surrounding countryside. Home of good food and the country's largest farmers' market, birthplace of the modern game of cricket, resting place of author Jane Austen and inspiration to the many craft-makers and artists who live here, Winchester is truly a destination for all seasons. Popular for its bustling shopping streets, its floral summer season and quirky open air events, it is most well-known for its eleventh century Cathedral and for its Great Hall, which for over 700 years has housed the mysterious King Athur's Round Table. The many bars, traditional pubs and restaurants make eating out a pleasure, and there are pretty riverside walks past tranquil water meadows.

Stonehenge

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationNeeding very little introduction as one of England's oldest mysteries, Stonehenge is a Stone Age Monument that is visited by thousands annually. It is over 3,500 years old and is still in great, solid condition. It feels like stepping back in time as you explore the majesty of this amazing World Heritage Site. There is no documented purpose for the monument, but it has been referred to as a burial place, a calendar, and a place of worship and sacrifice. Your experience starts with the state-of-the-art sustainable Visitor Centre, where you can discover the story, see real artefacts, and look into the face of a man from 5,500 years ago, who has been forensically reconstructed. Journey to the stones themselves on your included shuttle service, and spend up to 45 minutes marvelling at this feat of engineering that still has us wondering how it was possible. Some visitors find their experience majestic, celestial, or spiritual when they first encounter Stonehenge. You are sure to be left in awe and feel drawn into this age old mystery!

Avebury Manor & Gardens plus the Avebury Stone Circles

A visit to Avebury Manor & Gardens and the remarkable Avebury Stone Circles is a journey into one of Britain’s most atmospheric and fascinating historic landscapes.

Set within the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, Avebury Manor is a beautifully restored historic house that offers a glimpse into centuries of English life. Each room reflects a different period in the manor’s long history, from medieval roots to more refined later eras, giving visitors a real sense of how the building has evolved over time. Outside, the gardens are equally enchanting, with peaceful paths, colourful planting and quiet corners perfect for a gentle wander and a moment to pause.

Just beyond the manor lies the vast Avebury Stone Circles, the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world. Unlike many ancient sites, Avebury can be explored up close, allowing you to walk freely among the towering stones and truly appreciate their scale and mystery. The village of Avebury itself sits within the circle, creating a unique and almost timeless atmosphere that feels both grounding and awe-inspiring.

Whether you’re drawn by history, archaeology or simply the tranquillity of the landscape, Avebury offers a wonderfully immersive experience. It’s a place to slow down, soak up the atmosphere and connect with a story that stretches back thousands of years, making it a truly unforgettable visit.
