Days 3 - 6
Please note excursion days may be swapped around for operational reasons. This itinerary is for guidance only.
Day 3
Spend the day exploring Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace and a UNESCO-listed treasure. Journey time is around 1hr 40mins, so sit back and enjoy the ride. Enjoy time at leisure to visit Mirabell Gardens, the Fortress, the Old Town and more. There is a funicular in the old town which will take you up to the castle (extra charge, of course!). There may be a queue, but the view from the top is worth it. You can get lunch in the castle too - great for a beer and a schnitzel with amazing views. Even if you don't get to the castle, the old town is lovely. Try a horse and cart ride from the old town? They can be a bit expensive (about 160 euros), but if you split it between 4 of you perhaps, it's not so bad (about 40 euros each).
Day 4
Relax and unwind as you enjoy a day at leisure at your hotel and in the pretty resort of Soll.
Day 5:
Austrian Lakes and Mountains Experience: Today you'll take the mountain train to Lake Achensee and cruise across its tranquil turquoise waters - known as the "Fjord of the Alps", and have a cruise on the lake. You'll have around an hour to relax on the lakeside too.
Day 6:
Starting at Zell am Zee, you'll take a nostalgic journey on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn narrow-gauge railway (we aim to secure the steam train service where possible, but it's not guaranteed to be steam). We'll then take the scenic drive through the national park to the breathtaking Krimml Waterfalls - the highest in Europe. You won't need to hike up to the Falls as we'll stop along the route for you to get your photos! Then we'll visit Rattenberg - Austria's smallest town - full of medieval charm and famous for its glass-blowing heritage.
