If you love wonderful destinations, beautiful architecture and history in picture perfect settings then this is the treat for you! Whatever the season, Lille is the perfect European base for a short weekend break located around just 1½ hours’ drive from Calais.
We stay for 3 nights at the excellent, centrally located Mercure Lille Grand Place, perfect for exploring the delights of Lille. We’ll also visit Belgium taking in nearby Bruges, known for its beguiling canals, pretty bridges and charming architecture as well as the popular coastal town of Ostend with its cosmopolitan centre, wonderful sandy beaches and spacious promenade. Whether your interests lie in food, drink or history, there is something for everyone!

Day 1Join your coach at your convenient local pick-up point, and get comfortable as we head to Kent to join our ferry at Dover for the crossing to France.
On arrival in Calais, we continue to our hotel in the centre of Lille to check in. Then have free time to relax or explore Lille and the many fantastic bars and restaurants close to your hotel.
Day 2 & 3Enjoy free time to explore Lille with its Grand Place, the main square surrounded by many fine historic buildings and a delightful old town area with cobbled streets. Spend all of your time in Lille or join us on our included excursions over the border into Belgium.
Bruges is one of Europe's most beautiful and best-preserved medieval cities, with something to see at every turn. With its winding cobbled streets, scenic canals and stunning architecture it is no wonder Bruges is a World Heritage Site. Its compact size means it is easily enjoyed in a day with plenty of sights to take in. Bruges has something for everyone from horse carriage rides around town to even enjoying a boat trip, and all surrounded by many restaurants and shops selling the famous Belgian waffles, beer, lace and of course the vast array of chocolate shops.
Ostend, the 'City by the Sea', has a rich Maritime history and over five and a half miles of sandy beaches. Take a walk down the promenade where you will find many shops, bars and restaurants. Its location on the Belgian coast opens the doors to a number of culinary delights, so why not head to a seafood restaurant to sample one of the local delicacies.
Day 4After breakfast, say farewell to your hotel and sit back and relax as we head back towards Calais and the crossing back to the UK and the onward journey home.

BrugesThe enchanting town of Bruges remain one of the most popular places to visit in Belgium and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its picturesque canals and winding streets of medieval buildings and remarkable architecture including the beautiful 13th century Belfry and Market Square. Why not enjoy a carriage ride along the historic streets or see the beauty of Bruges from the water with a boat trip on the canals around the city. Visit one of the many chocolate shops or or sample a beer in one of the traditional Belgian breweries.
OstendThis well known, enchanting Belgian seaside town combines a fascinating history with a thriving modern culture. Described as the cultural capital of the Belgian coast, it has become a firm favourite with British visitors. Ostend is Belgium's premier resort known as the "City by the Sea", with miles of sandy beaches. Stroll down the delightful wide promenades where you will find many shops to browse and buy or perhaps just relax in one of the many bars or restaurants. Ostend has grown from a humble fishing village into a lively and cosmopolitan seaside resort with a pretty harbour, marina, casino and pedestrianised shopping streets. Visitors will be amazed by all there is to see and do with many activities taking place all year round. It is a fine place to sample a wonderful, friendly European ambience.
LilleRubbing shoulders with Belgium just across the border, Lille is a surprising French city, full of hidden gems and just waiting to be discovered. It is a treasure trove of cultural and commercial offerings. Known for its outstanding Flemish architecture, Lille has a rich history. One of the most important towns in northern France, there is much to discover. Perhaps take a stroll through the maze of cobbled lanes in Lille’s old town with fantastic shopping opportunities. Feast your eyes on the ornate 17th century Vieille Bourse, the city’s finest building, and the Grand Place, the favourite meeting place of the Lillois and a perfect place to stop and have a drink or bite to eat in one of the many cafes or restaurants.
