Yarmouth town is located on the North-West of the Isle of Wight, and acts as one of the gateways to the Island. This historic port town sits at the mouth of the River Yar and contains some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight, including a 16th Century castle. There are a number of pubs and restaurants in Yarmouth if you are looking for somewhere to eat. There is also a licensed café at the foot of Yarmouth pier which is open all year round serving a range of food and refreshments, including locally sourced Minghella Ice Cream.
The Needles & Alum Bay
As soon as you think of the Isle of Wight the iconic image of the Needles springs to mind, the Islands' most famous landmark attraction which you will get to enjoy in conjunction with views over Alum Bay, best known for its multi-coloured sand cliffs and stunning views across the Solent. Some 60 million years ago movement in the bedrock caused underwater sediments to be pushed nearly vertical to form the multi-coloured cliffs that are visible today.
Newport on the Isle of Wight has two elegant squares and many fine Georgian and Victorian town houses. The impressive colonnaded Guildhall was designed by John Nash and built in 1816, with the clock tower added in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It now houses the Museum of Island History and the Tourist Information Centre. Shopping in Newport is a pleasure, with a variety of exclusive small shops, coffee shops and cafes all within easy walking distance. Newport Harbour is just a short walk from the town centre and museums, crafts studios and the Quay Arts Centre are housed in former warehouses.
The largest town on the Island, Ryde has fine Georgian and Victorian buildings, shops, tea-rooms, pubs, restaurants, and a marina. The sea-wall promenade provides a popular walk, passing the Victorian watchtower on the way to Puckpool Park.
