The Isle of Wight may be just five miles off the mainland, but it’s a different world. Nowhere in the country can match it for geographical variety in its 23 mile long and 13 mile wide, stretch of land. You will find quiet fishing harbours and quaint towns and villages, along with stretches of golden sand and unspoilt, award-winning beaches. More than half the Isle of Wight is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with spectacular scenery and a rich royal heritage, the island has plenty to offer all year round. Our charming seaside town base of Sandown, nestled on the island's eastern coast, beckons with its captivating blend of natural beauty, history and fun.

We'll whisk you away and over the water on the short crossing from the mainland to then arrive at your hotel in Sandown. The Burlington Hotel is in a central seaside location set back just 2 minutes walk from the beach and town centre.

Whilst on the Isle of Wight, join us as we explore some of the best the island has to offer. From a scenic 'Round the Island Tour', the sub-tropical paradise of Ventnor Botanic Garden, the seaside town of Ryde and a wonderful journey on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Day 1

Join your comfortable coach at your convenient local pick up point this morning, and head to the south coast, with coffee/lunch stops along the way. We take the short ferry crossing to the lovely Isle of Wight. On arrival at your hotel in the popular resort of Sandown there will be time to settle in and relax or perhaps take a stroll for a breath of sea air along the pretty prom. Make sure you have time for a drink in the bar before enjoying your first evening meal.

Days 2 to 4

Enjoy a traditional English breakfast each day to set you up properly for your day ahead.

Your centrally located hotel makes the typical Victorian seaside resort of Sandown easy to explore. Perhaps take a stroll on the sandy beach or Esplanade. If you have a wander along Sandown Bay you could find a very special old souvenir with the island having one of the highest concentrations of dinosaur fossils anywhere in the world! Sit on the prom and watch the world go by maybe with some fish and chips or an ice cream! Or simply unwind in one of the tea rooms or enjoy a glass of Cider in one of the traditional pubs.

You'll have plenty of time to explore Sandown and maybe go even further? Having said that, if you don't want the hassle of organising everything yourself then make sure you join us on our fabulous excursions to see the island on our scenic 'around the island tour', the unique Ventnor Botanic Garden, the Isle of Wight’s largest town Ryde, and a step back to a bygone era with a journey on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Whatever you've been up to during the day, you can always look forward to relaxing at the end of each day with your included evening meals plus entertainment provided by your hotel on some evenings. Or you may prefer a wander out along the lovely prom to watch the twinkling lights on the sea and the traditional entertainment of the nearby pier.

Ventnor Botanic Gardens

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationThis unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs. As the garden holds its warmth from its southerly aspect and with an average rainfall of just 28 inches, its climate is more akin to the Mediterranean which allows a wide variety of plants to thrive. The garden is unrivalled for its collections of subtropical plants grown unprotected outdoors. Enjoy free time to explore and learn about the fabulous plants and flowers in both the garden and tropical house. Suitable footwear is required.

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationThe resort of Ryde is a welcoming seaside town on the north east coast of the Isle of Wight. It is the Isle's largest town, often referred to as the ’Gateway to the Island’. Take in the views of shimmering waters and the long stretch of golden sands, and the Pier, at nearly half a mile, is one of the oldest and longest piers in the country. Next to the pier is the hovercraft terminal with links to the mainland in less than 10 minutes. Along the Esplanade you will find colourful flowerbeds, a pretty marina and a wonderful selection of boutiques, museums and galleries. The bustling main street has lots of unique shops and eateries flowing downhill to the seafront, making this an ideal visit for everyone.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

INCLUDED Visitor Destination

As a living, breathing, working museum, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a popular and fascinating destination. Beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages, often hauled by 19th century locomotives, take visitors on a leisurely 10-mile journey through the island's unspoilt countryside. Experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of over 150 years of railway history. Inside the (stationary!) museum you will find displays of our Victorian and Edwardian carriages alongside a collection of our rare rolling stock, all preserved undercover and protected from the elements, allowing more time to restore other historic vehicles. They aren’t shut behind glass though – in fact, if they are unlocked you can step aboard for a closer inspection. Kids will love dressing up as drivers and guards and re-enacting stories from the past. Follow the timeline detailing the history of steam railways through to the modern day electric line and find out why May Joyce is such an important person to the history of railways on the Island.

Isle of Wight Round the Island Tour

INCLUDED Visitor DestinationToday, we board our coach for a circular tour of the island, which boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline and stunning scenery. We will take in plenty of the magnificent views this fabulous isle has to offer, making various stops on the way.

Highlights include the Military Road scenic coastal road to Alum Bay and the famous Needles, the ancient port of Yarmouth which is home to the oldest architecture on the island, including a 16th century castle, and a grade 2 listed pier.
