Ryde
INCLUDED Visitor DestinationThe resort of Ryde is a welcoming seaside town on the north east coast of the Isle of Wight. It is the Isle's largest town, often referred to as the ’Gateway to the Island’. Take in the views of shimmering waters and the long stretch of golden sands, and the Pier, at nearly half a mile, is one of the oldest and longest piers in the country. Next to the pier is the hovercraft terminal with links to the mainland in less than 10 minutes. Along the Esplanade you will find colourful flowerbeds, a pretty marina and a wonderful selection of boutiques, museums and galleries. The bustling main street has lots of unique shops and eateries flowing downhill to the seafront, making this an ideal visit for everyone.Isle of Wight Steam Railway
INCLUDED Visitor DestinationAs a living, breathing, working museum, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a popular and fascinating destination. Beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages, often hauled by 19th century locomotives, take visitors on a leisurely 10-mile journey through the island's unspoilt countryside. Experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of over 150 years of railway history. Inside the (stationary!) museum you will find displays of our Victorian and Edwardian carriages alongside a collection of our rare rolling stock, all preserved undercover and protected from the elements, allowing more time to restore other historic vehicles. They aren’t shut behind glass though – in fact, if they are unlocked you can step aboard for a closer inspection. Kids will love dressing up as drivers and guards and re-enacting stories from the past. Follow the timeline detailing the history of steam railways through to the modern day electric line and find out why May Joyce is such an important person to the history of railways on the Island.
