Home of the National Wallace Monument 19th century tower and overlooking the site of 1297 Battle of Tirling Bridge, where William Wallace defeated the English. Why not take the opportunity to visit Stirling Castle (entrance fee applies) or simply enjoy the array of bars, cafes and shops that Stirling has to offer.
You won't find a bigger loch or lake in the whole of Britain and you'll have a hard time finding a more beautiful one, too. Take a cruise on the waters and admire the mighty bulk of Ben Lomond, Scotland's most southerly Munro, as well as the jagged shoulders of the Arrochar Alps. You could maybe even visit one of the loch's 30 islands. You might get a surprise when you pass Inchconnachan - those aren't giant squirrels you can see, but wallabies! The island has had a colony of the Antipodean creatures happily hopping there since the 1940s.
