Excursions

Arundel Castle & Arundel

Arundel Castle overlooks the town, and the Norman keep, medieval gatehouse and Barbican survive. Parts of the house were rebuilt in the 1870s and 1890s and are a great example of Gothic Victorian architecture. Friendly guides around the castle will teach you about the history of the place, and how the interiors have been so well preserved over the years. Quirky, fun and cosmopolitan, the modern market town of Arundel in West Sussex, is full of history and heritage, contemporary culture and fantastic leisure pursuits. Many people will know Arundel for two famous landmarks, Arundel Castle and Arundel Cathedral, which dominate its impressive skyline. Shop at independent retailers, antique markets and art galleries in the Georgian and Victorian town centre or eat out overlooking the River Arun in a pretty waterside pub, café or restaurant.

Worthing & Chichester

Worthing
is a traditional seaside town with a twist. The place has lots of surprises that visitors will love. The open promenade is great for walking or cycling on the seafront, and the famous pier is always a favourite. There are plenty of quirky shops to check out, and learn some of its amazing history from smuggling to World War II on one of the town’s history trails.

One of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK, Chichester has played a key role of the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. Today, Chichester is the prosperous administrative capital of West Sussex and a great place for shopping, but it's hard to avoid Chichester's links to its illustrious past. Away from the main streets, the quieter historic enclaves of the Pallants, St Martin's Square, St John's Street and Newtown give a glimpse of the eighteenth century, with many fine buildings. Chichester also has plenty of parkland too. Priory Park is the highlight, with the city walls wrapped around the outside of the park, the remains of Chichester Castle and the impressive Guildhall the centerpiece.

Chichester city centre's broad streets are packed with listed buildings, with the list headed by the towering presence of Chichester Cathedral now home to a family of peregrine falcons who can be heard as they swoop over the city at dusk. The pedestrianised city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls and this helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot.

Free time in Brighton

Also known as ‘Doctor Brighton’ and ‘London by the Sea’, the unique blend of outrageous architecture and quaint streets has made Brighton England’s most fashionable resort for over 200 years. Wander ‘The Lanes’, the oldest quarter, lined with 17th century fishermen’s cottages and along the famous pier.
