Excursions

Cream Tea at Highcliffe Castle with talk

Tuck into a delicious cream tea at the wonderful Highcliffe Castle with spectacular views of the castle itself. The castle is an important example of Romantic and Picturesque architecture, and is a Grade I listed building. There will also be a talk about the castle and grounds, sharing information about the history of the castle and its importance in the area.

Isle of Purbeck & Swanage

The Isle of Purbeck is a peninsula, a sixty square mile of land jutting into the English Channel. The chalk rocks can be dated to the Cretaceous period as it is part of the Jurassic Coast, and there are also a number of Iron Age, Roman and Saxon archaeological sites on the Isle of Purbeck. The absence of farming on the peninsula as also made it a wildlife haven and the mix of natural attractions has made the popular with visitors for many years.

Situated on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, and a gateway town for exploring the Jurassic Coast, the fun family resort of Swanage is ideal place to visit. The gently sloping, golden sand and clear unpolluted water of Swanage Beach and Bay are just some of the great reasons that it has been awarded a Blue Flag and Seaside Award. This resort also benefits from some of the south coast’s best weather throughout the year, which is lucky because there is so much to explore and do from Durlston Castle and Country Park with its spectacular clifftop walks through to Swanage Pier and the town’s very own heritage trail.
