Babbacombe
INCLUDED Visitor DestinationBabbacombe is a district of Torquay, but is itself a popular all-year-round resort town on South Devon’s glorious English Riviera.
Affectionately known as the ‘Jewel in the crown of the English Riviera’, the beach resort of Babbacombe includes a great range of things to do and see in a quiet, laid back setting. Despite being right next to the vibrant Torquay, you’ll find that Babbacombe is amazingly secluded, and with picturesque views and warm weather all year round it’s the ideal location to enjoy the best of South Devon.
Enjoy an idyllic walk along Babbacombe Downs, the highest cliff top promenade in England. Here you can take in the spectacular coastline of South Devon spotting seabirds, seals and even dolphins from above! Take a trip on the historic Cliff Railway or discover the Model Village, set in 4 acres of award-winning gardens, showcasing British life past and present in a humorous way through hundreds of model scenes, vehicles and miniature people. A wide choice of pubs and restaurants are available, all serving excellent local food and drink and the best of South Devon cuisine, notably Hanbury’s Fish and Chips – much loved and much tasted by visitors – which serves up fresh, locally caught fish, chunky home-made chips and offers fine views across the bay.

And don’t forget to visit the famous replica of Sir Francis Drake’s iconic ship, The Golden Hind, which has docked in Brixham for over 50 years. You have to go a long way to find a town as pretty as Dartmouth. Overlooking one of the finest natural harbours in the UK, Dartmouth has a strong maritime heritage with the iconic Royal Naval College set on a hill overlooking the town. You will find a host of narrow lanes, stairways and corridors, and historical streets to explore. The town has fine restaurants, as well as arts, antiques and craft shops just about everywhere. The Greenway Ferry takes visitors across the river to the world famous home of Agatha Christie, who so loved this area. You are bound to fall in love with Dartmouth too!
