Excursions
East Lancashire Railway & Bury (Rawtenstall to Bury) & free time in Bury
We have tickets for the fabulous East Lancashire Railway. The line runs for 12 miles through scenic Lancastrian landscapes - beautiful rural panoramas and postcard pretty villages to bustling Victorian towns and cotton mill dotted horizons. After a ride on the East Lancashire Railway from Rawtenstall to Bury, we alight at Bury with free time. Historically, Bury was a mill which centred on textile production and it was in fact the Brooksbottom Mill in Summerseat which launched Bury’s role in the cotton industry. Industry increased for the area when the town was connected to the national canal system by the Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal in the early nineteenth century. This is a fascinating place, with lovely people and an award-winning market.
Oswaldtwistle Mills & Afternoon Tea & Tales on the Leeds Liverpool Canal
Oswaldtwistle Mills is an award-winning shopping village that has something to amaze, charm and intrigue visitors of all ages. The former weaving mill has over 100 retailers all under one roof. The Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Pavers, Peacocks & Bonmarché, an extensive new home & lifestyle centre, craft & sewing centre, homewares, furniture, lighting, unique giftware, a gourmet deli selling locally made food produce, Stockley’s sweet shop, childrens play area, textile and heritage museum and even its own wildfowl reserve.
We take a calming cruise along the Leeds Liverpool, Canal and take in the wonderful scenery and stunning views of Lancaster's skyline. As you cruise along, tuck into a delicious afternoon tea and listen to stories about the canal’s history.
