PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
The Westcliff Hotel
The Westcliff Hotel in Southend is a charming Victorian hotel, close to the seafront and with views of the Thames Estuary. The rooms retain their Victorian character but offer the comfort and high standard of a modern hotel. The rooms offer comfort for visitors who have spent their day exploring the area, and each room has en suite bathrooms, free toiletries, hair dryer, flat screen TV and tea & coffee making station.
After joining the coach, we head towards our destination and will have coffee/lunch stops along the way. We expect to arrive at our hotel in the late afternoon.
Days 2 - 4
Traditional English breakfast will be provided daily. Enjoy excursions to Colchester, a boat trip to Red Sands Tower, free time in Southend and trips to Faversham and Whitsable. Head back to the hotel for dinner in the evening.
After breakfast, we make our way home. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break, we continue homewards.
Constable Country & Colchester
Today we venture into the heart of beautiful Constable Country. We visit Flatford Mill where we will find the 16th Century thatched cottage that Constable loved to include in his work, along with an exhibition on his life and work. We move on to Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town where we'll have some free time to explore at leisure.
Boat trip from Southend Pier to Red Sand Towers.
Take a cruise from Southend Pier to the World War II Maunsell Forts, called the Red Sand Towers. The historic monuments in the estuary were built to protect London and other settlements around the Thames from aerial and naval attacks. The various forts managed to shoot down over 20 enemy aircraft throughout the war.
Faversham & Whitstable
Discover Faversham, located on the north Kent coast and surrounded by its maritime history. The oldest market town in the county and recorded in the Domesday Book, it is bursting with history and located on a winding creek. Whitsable is the place to go for quirky shops, oysters and the English seaside. Walk around the harbour or West Beach and spot windsurfers in the waves at Tankerton Beach. For a spot of shopping, head into the town and browse the shops or enjoy a trip to Whitsable Museum and Gallery or the Horsebridge Art Centre.
