You'll have the opportunity to explore some of the island yourself but make sure you also join us for your INCLUDED excursions to the Yarmouth and Alum Bay for sight of the famous Needles; the Island's capital Newport and Cowes. Return to the hotel in the evening to enjoy our festive Turkey & Tinsel themed package including festive entertainment every evening, traditional Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings and New Years Eve Party Night!
After a final tasty breakfast we make our way back to the mainland via the short ferry crossing. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break, we continue homewards.
Newport & Cowes
Newport on the Isle of Wight has two elegant squares and many fine Georgian and Victorian town houses. The impressive colonnaded Guildhall was designed by John Nash and built in 1816, with the clock tower added in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It now houses the Museum of Island History and the Tourist Information Centre. Shopping in Newport is a pleasure, with a variety of exclusive small shops, coffee shops and cafes all within easy walking distance. Newport Harbour is just a short walk from the town centre and museums, crafts studios and the Quay Arts Centre are housed in former warehouses.
Cowes, famed for its professional sailing, stunning Victorian architecture and vibrant festival atmosphere is one of the most popular towns on the Isle of Wight to visit year-round. There are stunning sea views over the Solent to the mainland beyond. Find a spot to sit and watch the world go by...
Yarmouth, Alum Bay & The Needles & Arreton Barns
Yarmouth town is located on the North-West of the island and acts as one of the gateways to the Island with one of the main ferry services operating from its harbour. This historic port town sits at the mouth of the River Yar and contains some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight, including a 16th Century castle.
Alum Bay is well known for its multi-coloured sand cliffs and stunning views across the Solent. Many homes around the world have a glass object filled with sand as a memento of a visit to Alum Bay and The Needles, but perhaps less well known is the recent history of Alum Bay. Approximately 70 million years ago, the sea bed rose, was eroded and then sank beneath the sea again. The new sea was shallow and it laid down a series of sands and clays. Some 10 million years later, movement in the bedrock caused these sediments to be pushed nearly vertically to form the multi-coloured cliffs that are visible today. The Needles are impressive chalk stacks just beyond Alum Bay, on the outermost stack stands the Needles Lighthouse, and a popular photograph opportunity for visitors, either in the calm weather where the beautiful blue sea contrasts with the white rocks or in stormier weather when the waves crash.
Whatever time of year you visit, have your cameras at the ready! In the heart of the beautiful countryside is Arreton Barns, is the Isle of Wight’s largest arts and crafts centre. There are a vast array of studios showcasing the best work from local artisans and craftspeople. Browse the shops to find interesting and unique gifts to take home for yourself or loved ones, pop into the farm shop or stroll around the stunning grounds.
