  • Day 3 - Black Forest & Freiburg

The Black Forest is one of the most visited and best-known holiday regions of Germany. People are attracted by the outstanding natural beauty of its varied landscapes; from deep forests, rolling hills, lush meadows and pretty villages with decorated wooden houses. On our included excursion we have a short visit to the lakeside resort of Titisee, home to the largest natural lake in the Black Forest, stretching for over 1 mile. Its crystal clear waters attract thousands of visitors every year.

Later, we continue to the university city of Freiburg im Breisgau, one of the most attractive of South Germany and generally regarded as being the “unofficial capital” of the Black Forest. The charming old town is dominated by its Gothic Munster the towering spire of which is the landmark of the city. The town centre is noted for its pretty squares and romantic lanes and alongside some of the cobbled streets run a series of narrow streams called the Bachle.

The Freiburg Christmas Market is held in the very heart of its beautiful historical quarter. Shop for traditional arts and crafts from the Black Forest region, including straw shoes and colourful wooden toys.

    Meals - Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 4 - Colmar

A day at leisure today or why not join our optional excursion to the pretty French town of Colmar, which is all the more beguiling at this time of year. Situated along the Alsatian Wine Route, the town considers itself to be the ‘capital of Alsatian wine’.

Colmar town centre is essentially pedestrianised and comprises of numerous monuments, churches, museums and alleys, full of imposing buildings dating from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. At this time of year the Christmas magic takes over as the Old Town is illuminated and decorated. Explore the Christmas markets in the Old Town where a procession of decorations lead you to stalls selling a variety of festive goods.

We say goodbye to the Black Forest and head into France to our overnight hotel. En route we pause at the beautiful city of Strasbourg.

Strasbourg is a vibrant multicultural city and capital of the Alsace region. Strasbourg is also the official seat of the European Parliament and its historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the festive season, the Christkindelsmarik (market of the Child Jesus), comes alive.
