Our included sightseeing tour introduces you to the important sights such as the awesome Olympic Ski jump.

  • Day 4 - Free Time or Krimml Falls & Kitzbühel

Our optional excursion takes us over the scenic Gerlos Pass to Krimml Falls. These magnificent falls are widely regarded as some of the best in Europe. At 380 metres, the cascading waterfalls of Krimml create the longest free fall of water in Europe and the fifth highest in the world. There will be time at leisure to walk alongside the lower falls. Don’t forget your brolly, as even on the sunniest days there can be quite a lot of spray!

Afterwards, we continue to the picturesque walled town of Kitzbühel. The heyday of mining began here in 1450 but it wasn’t until the 16th century that silver was found. The city’s landscape is a consequence of that wealth. The town is nestled between the mountains of Kitzbühel Horn and the Hahnenkamm. In 1893 Franz Reisch became the first man to ski down from the Kitzbühel Horn after which, the first ski race was held in Kitzbühel. You will have free time to explore the walled Old Town or you may wish to take a cable car ride up the mighty Hahnenkamm Mountain for some spectacular views of the region (at extra cost, payable locally). We return to the hotel later this afternoon in time for our evening meal.

Meals - Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 5 - Salzburg

Today we include a visit to Salzburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. Why not join our optional guided walking tour accompanied by our local English-speaking guide. This walking tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and takes in the many sights and attractions of this famous Alpine city. Admire the baroque splendour of the churches and cathedral, the might of the Hohensalzburg fortress and also the quaint Getriedegasse, which with its wrought iron signs that overhang the doors, is one of the most beautiful shopping streets of Austria.

Salzburg is also known as the ‘Sound of Music’ city and during our tour you will see many sights featured in the film.

A visit to Salzburg would not be complete without a mention of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and before the tour is over we see his former birth house and also the square that is named after and dedicated to the famous composer.

The remainder of the day is spent at leisure for you to explore independently.

Meals - Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 6 - St. Johann & Berchtesgaden

Today’s included excursion first takes us to the picturesque resort of St. Johann in Tyrol before we travel across the border to the Bavarian Alps where we visit Berchtesgaden. Here you can join our optional excursion to the Eagle's Nest*, dramatically perched on a mountain top, and the famed location of Hitler’s secretive Alpine hideaway.

The Eagle's Nest was commissioned by Martin Bormann and the National Socialist German Workers' Party, before being presented to the fascist dictator Adolf Hitler as a gift on his fiftieth birthday. We begin with a scenic drive to the Obersalzberg Mountain, from where we join a local post bus for the breathtaking journey along the Kehlstein high road.

We then ascend by a luxurious elevator to the Eagle’s Nest summit to enjoy the stunning views overlooking Berchtesgaden and the Salzach Valley and time to explore a unique example of historic architecture, which remains in its original state.

Hitler spent much of his latter days here in Berchtesgaden, surrounded by his advisors and his favourite doctor who prescribed all sorts of medicines and diet for this then somewhat mentally erratic leader!

Meals - Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 7 - Free Time or Achensee & the Ziller Valley

A further day at leisure or why not join our optional excursion to lovely Lake Achensee. This region is an idyllic spot and regarded as one of the most beautiful in the Alps, the heart of which is the lake itself.

We visit the small town of Pertisau where we board a boat for a cruise on the lake. The cruise is a round trip lasting just over an hour, during which coffee and cake will be served on board. It's a great way to be able to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Afterwards, we continue to the traditional Alpine resort of Mayrhofen. The town itself, nestled at the end of the Ziller Valley, is the 3rd largest community in the Tyrol. It rests under the Hintertux Glacier and sits between the Penken and Ahorn mountains. There will be free time to discover the resort and its fashionable shops.
