Day 1
Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to northern France for an overnight stay.
Day 2
Continue south to the Parma area of northern Italy for an overnight stay.

Day 3
We continue through Italy to the Neapolitan Riviera for a six-night stay. Spend your days relaxing on the hotel's sun deck overlooking the sea and explore some of the area's splendid sights and scenery on our programme of included and optional excursions.

Day 4 - Sorrento
Join our included half-day visit to the beautiful resort of Sorrento. The town and area has been a popular holiday resort for over 2000 years with all nationalities and is the perfect place to watch the world go by. The town features beautiful architecture, many cafés, restaurants and lots of shops for you to explore. A popular souvenir from the area is Limoncello, the signature lemon liqueur. Spend time exploring the narrow streets and harbour area, browse the shops for souvenirs or sit back and relax with a traditional Italian pastry and a cappuccino – the choice is yours.

Day 5 - Free Time or Pompeii & Mount Vesuvius
Today we visit the historic town of Pompeii at the foot of Mount Vesuvius on our optional excursion. In 79AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius engulfed the inhabitants of this small town in approximately 6 metres of stone and ash where they were literally frozen in time. Painstaking excavations, which are still ongoing, began in the 18th century and have uncovered a remarkable hidden city. Accompany your expert guide around the town, walking along roads with indents from the passing of chariot wheels and discovering the remains of homes, shops and public baths (entrance to the ruins is included). Later, we travel up Vesuvius to 3,000 feet, where you can continue on foot to the crater (There is a local charge for this).Please note; this excursion is operated by a local coach.

Day 6 - Free Time or Isle of Capri
A free day today, or you can join our superb optional excursion as we sail across the Bay of Naples to the Isle of Capri. Visit the fabulous villa of Dr Axel Munthe (entrance extra), a Swedish doctor, whose bestselling book “Story of San Michele” tells of his time on Capri. Continue to Capri town, famous for its main square Piazza Umberto, which has a pretty white church and several open-air cafes where you can sit and watch the world drift by. Leading off the square are medieval looking alleyways and arcades full of shops selling handicrafts of the island, clothing, shoes, ceramics and jewellery made from coral and gold. Admire the colourful gardens of Augustus (entrance extra), which overlook the famed Faraglioni Rocks and Marina Piccola where Gracie Fields once lived. There is so much to see and do on this tiny island paradise you will be sorry to leave.Please note; this excursion is operated by a local coach/ferry.

Day 8 - Free time or Amalfi Coast
Today’s optional excursion takes us along one of the most spectacular roads in Europe, the ‘Amalfi Drive’. The winding cliff top road offers breath-taking panoramic views at every bend. We pause above the beautiful town of Positano, before continuing on to Amalfi, which gives its name to the whole coast on which it lies. Amalfi was once a prosperous Marine Republic, powerful and prosperous and is now a thriving holiday resort. The unmistakable cluster of white tightly packed houses rising up the hillside is dominated by the beautiful Cathedral, which stands superbly on the top of a great flight of steps leading up from the main square. Housed in the magnificent Cathedral are the remains of the Patron Saint of Amalfi and also Scotland – Saint Andrew. Here you will have time at leisure to explore the largest and most popular town of this coast; boasting medieval architecture and colourful façades. Take the opportunity to enjoy this splendid jewel on the peninsula. From Amalfi we travel to Ravello, which nestles in the hillside and is considered by many to give the best views of the area. Here you can visit villa Rufolo (entrance extra), which gave the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create one of his most famous operas, Parsifal. Situated on a ledge over Amalfi, Ravello has been the inspiration for artists and gardeners for many years.Please note; this excursion is operated by a local coach.

Day 9 - Rome
We leave the Neapolitan Riviera this morning as we head north towards our overnight hotel in Chianciano Terme. En-route we visit the beautiful Italian capital city of Rome. The Historic Centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with wonderful palaces, churches, basilicas, Roman ruins, monuments and fountains. It has an immensely rich historical heritage and cosmopolitan atmosphere. There will be ample free time for you to explore this wonderful city at your leisure. To make the most of your visit, why not join our optional guided sightseeing tour. The sightseeing tour will introduce you to the city’s wonderful sights, including the Colosseum (entrance not included) and the Trevi Fountain.
