Day 3 - Ziller Valley Railway
See an alternative side of the Tyrol on today’s exciting optional excursion. We travel to the town of Jenbach where we board the Ziller Valley Railway. Sit back and relax as the old locomotive takes you on a historic journey through the panoramic Ziller Valley.
The Zillertal is one of Austria’s most famous narrow railways. It was opened on the last day of 1902 and has been in operation ever since. Nevertheless, the line was almost closed in 1965 as tourism and goods traffic was not enough to keep it open. Thankfully, it was saved by the construction of the Schlegleisspeicher Dam high in the mountains. The building of the Dam required 325,000 tons of cement and ballast, all of which was transported on the Zillertalbahn.
We arrive at the beautiful ski resort of Mayrhofen and after lunch we travel to the town of Rattenberg and to the Kisslinger glass factory.
Please note: a diesel engine will operate the train journey.

Day 4 - Salzburg
Today we include a visit to Salzburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. The city dates back to Celtic times and prospered in the Middle Ages on account of the salt industry from where the city derives its name. The city is famed in the world of music, as the setting for the film 'The Sound of Music'. It is also home to the Getriedegasse, one of the most beautiful shopping streets in Austria.
To make the most of your visit why not join our optional sightseeing tour accompanied by a local English-speaking guide. The sightseeing tour is a walking tour lasting approximately 90 minutes and takes in many sights and attractions of this famous alpine city. A visit to Salzburg would not be complete without a mention of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and before the tour is over, we see his former birth-house and also the square that is named after and dedicated to the famous composer.
