Itinerary

7 Day Itinerary

  • Day 1

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to our overnight hotel in northern France.

  • Day 2 - Metz

En route to our hotel in Klingenthal, where we stay for four nights, we visit Metz with its wonderful Old Town and Gothic Saint Etienne cathedral, said to be one of the highest Gothic structures in Europe, and nicknamed ‘The Good Lord’s Lantern’ due to its large number of stained glass windows.

    Meals - Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 3 - Strasbourg

We include a full-day excursion to Strasbourg, a charming city situated in the Alsace region. Be sure to view the impressive Gothic cathedral and the numerous bridges crossing the Ill River, which formed part of the 17th century fortifications for the city.

Wander the little streets of ‘Petit France’ – the former tanners quarter lined with charming inns and flower-bedecked timbered houses, and see the contemporary European district, or Imperial District with its German influences.

    Meals - Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 4 - Free Time or Alsace Villages

Why not join our optional ‘Alsace Villages’ excursion visiting two of the villages classified as being the ‘Most Beautiful Villages in France’. We travel along part of the famous Alsace Wine Route through lovely scenery and rambling vineyards with views across the Rhine plain to the Black Forest mountains. We call at Ribeauvillé, with its half-timbered buildings, three ruins of fortified castles and its 13th century Butchers Tower.

We also visit the delightful, small walled village of Riquewihr with its pretty Alsatian half-timbered houses, and 13th century ‘Dolder’ or defensive gate.

    Meals - Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 5 - Colmar

Included excursion to Colmar, the regional capital. Colmar retains a ‘country town’ atmosphere and has been wonderfully preserved, with its pretty streets, charming squares and canals lined with half-timbered houses, an area known as ‘Little Venice’. Colmar is often regarded as the quintessential Alsace town. This afternoon we enjoy an included visit to a wine cellar with a tasting of local wines, before we return to our hotel.

    Meals - Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 6 - Obernai

We leave Klingenthal and head to Obernai. This delightful town is set amongst pretty vineyards on the slopes of the Vosges Mountains. Obernai was the birthplace of Alsace’s patron saint Odile. See the medieval streets and restored medieval half-timbered houses around the Old Town, the Six Buckets Well, and the inner wall which measures 1,400 metres and has 4 gates and around 20 towers. We continue to our overnight hotel in northern France.
