Day 2 - Floralia Spring Flower Show & Ghent
This morning, our included excursion takes us to Floralia, the spring flower exhibition in the park and greenhouses at the castle of Groot Bijgaarden. The park, which is approximately 14 hectares in size, incorporates many spring bulb varieties. The castle’s gardeners plant by hand, under direction from The Netherlands, more than one million bulbs. See tulips, lilies, narcissi, and daffodils and numerous botanical varieties. A sea of muscari, wild tulips, violets, azaleas and rhododendrons spreads out under the ancient trees. This afternoon, we include an excursion to Ghent, affectionately known as the ‘Flower Capital of Belgium’. This wonderful medieval Flemish harbour city has a wealth of stunning architecture to be explored. A visit to Ghent is certain to astound and impress. With its quaint canals and three impressive towers of St Nicholas Church, the Belfry and the magnificent St Baaf’s cathedral, containing the world famous fifteenth century painting the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, by Jan van Eyck, there is plenty for you to see and do.
